My daughter lock up DVD region in Windows XP Professional on my NEC ND-3500. I could not execute any changes anymore. Could I reset that and how? Please tell me where could I find FW 2.17 or 2.17 SE and which is official FW?

Sorry on my English! Damjan

Thank`s! I was thinking that is another way to solve that problem. I do not want lose warranty! NEC sent email to me with message: The only possibility now is to send the unit to reseting back the Regional Settings. Please contact your reseller for further informations about the repair services and regional settings resetting.
I have made a phone call to our service and they didn`t know nothing abaut resetting. I was thinking that anybody on this forum know how to resset regional settings.

Hi Emperor,
I have another question about regain setting. I have a nec 3500a updated from stock 2.16 firmware to unoffical 2c8se as you advice last week. Everything workout great. The ripping speed increase and I backup 10 movies all good. But today I read this post regarding regain setting I check my drive. It shown only 2 time left and the regain is not set. I bought my drive brand new from New Egg. I remember I never set the regain. Did I get a defected drive or what I should do with it? Thank you!

Set the drive once, and in future you don't need to re-set it, even if you try playing other region discs

Hi emperor,
Thank you for the reply. Sorry for all the newbie questions. I still confuss on the region setting. I use DVDinfopro to check my drive it shown rpc1. Also I try to search on the web and read a few aticles regarding region free drive. They said region free firmware is only part of it. The other is the software. I just wondering if my software only has 2 time allow to change the region. Do I in danger. How to fix it? Yesterday my friend give me a program said it will fix it call Region killer. I install it but now I can't find the region setting on my drive because I want to set it as your reply told me set it once and never need to reset it. Do I need to uninstall the region killer software? Thank you!

Most current software DVD Players include the 5 limit changes also, as a second stage protection, but this can be overpassed easily...

Hi,

I'm also confused over RPC1.

MY NEC 2510 was patched with the RPC and Riplock version of the 2f7 firmware found on the dangerous brothers site.

Both DVDInfo and Driveinfo say the drive is still Region Protected.

However, DVDRegionKiller which I have running tells me the drive is region free.

Is DVD Region Killer 'confusing' the other programmes, or is my drive incorrectly patched.?

Also, when burning a DVD, I notice the speed is 4.1x for approx 20% of the burn, increasing to 6.2x up to approx 50%, then the last leg is ran at 8.3x. Is this normal ?

Normaly if you used an RPC1 firmware then it should be like this no matter what some applications report.

Tnx Iggy,

So I cant rely on software to correctly identify an RPC1 drive.

Funny thing is, when I ran driveinfoo after flashing, it did report the drive as RPC1, but despite reflashing twice, its now identified as RPC2 - Weird

Also, can anyone recommend a programme to indicate Rip speed of a drive
