Thanks, nice page! Though I flashed that page's original 2.16 and still have the same little quirks

I know I'm probably making something out of nothing but still the drive felt a whole lot better when it was brand new and opened up in a snap. All the better (or worse) now that I can't get it back the way it was! Now it won't even beat my old LiteOn out. In fact, seems to be getting slower with every flash...

Just how many flashes can these things take anyway? Has anyone else noticed this strange behavior?

Most people say 255 flashes are possible with these kinds of drives, but AFAIK nobody has ever gotten that far to find out.

BTW, I've never noticed a slowdown in eject speed.

My LiteOn also beats NEC in matter of opening... with Nec it takes about 1 second.. but with my LiteOn is almost instant.. but I don't really care about it ;) If you think that there is something really really wrong with Nec just return the drive and get a new one.

Hi

i'm new here on the forum...
I have here the traxdata dL dvd disk, with media code: RITEK D01. I flashed my NEC3500 with the TDK 1616n v2.C8 SE firmware...
I thought everything is fine and I can burn that disk with nero 6.3.1.20, but it went wrong... after 5 minutes I get an error :
12:51:32	#55 Phase 127 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1855
	Generating DVD high compatibility borders

12:51:32	#56 Text 0 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1713
	Set remaining time: 0:00,000 (0ms) -> OK

12:51:32	#57 CDR -1135 File WriterStatus.cpp, Line 164
	Write error

12:51:32	#58 TRANSFER -24 File WriterStatus.cpp, Line 164

12:51:32	#59 Text 0 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1713
	Set remaining time: 0:00,000 (0ms) -> OK

12:51:32	#60 Phase 38 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1855
	Burn process failed at 2.4x (3.324 KB/s)

do anyone know what the problem is?? i get this error also with standard 2.16 firmware...

I hope anyone can help me, to fix this problem

Hey guys!
Ah man i've been reading this whole thread and I just went for the flash so that i can rip dvds faster.

used dvd shrink to copy a 7gb dvd in less than one hour.
after i flashed the drive, it now says 2 hours... what happened?

Can someone tell me if i did something wrong? Nero tools says the firmware changed and the read speed went up from 5x to 8x, but the cd/dvd test on nero is slower.

Should i flash it again or what?
I rebooted after flashing.

Thanks in advance guys!

NVM ... for some reason it just started to work after i did another test.
Runs at ~4.4 - 5 KB/s now
don't know what speed that is ... but before it was like 3.2 or something

Thanks for the file !

Haven't tried it with DVD rw but if it doesn't work it's ok b/c i don't use it really ...

Thanks again

Lostboy

@ edraket, try burn your Ritek DL media at 2.4X

@ lostboy76, the ripping speed for DVD SL media is 16X and for DVD DL media 7X MAX

thanks for the reply emperor ...
but i'm really new to the terms your using.

SL is single layer?
DL is dual layer?

Well i ripped a dual layer (~7 gb?) and it took 30 min.

Have you guys tried burner a cd?
I think i used to burn at 40x or something in the 40s but now my max is 32x ???
Is there something else i'm missing?

ah man i hate it when i don't know what is going on ...

Thanks for the replies

check the last line... I've burned the disk at 2.4 x not at 4.0x

I posted this in the actual NEC 3500AG firmware thread, so my apologies for double-posting. However, I'm a bit confused with this issue and wondered if anyone could tell me the actual cause of my problems.

I'm new here, and although I'm fairly confident in what I'm doing, I do have a few questions which just keep popping up. I've read through most threads that I could find relating to the subject, but couldn't find specific answers to my needs. My apologies if it IS somewhere that I couldn't find here. Pointing me in the right direction would be wonderful.

I updated my firmware to what I believe is the latest - 2.C8 SE, yet I don't see any speed improvements whatsoever. Before this, I had a ripped 2.18 firmware instead. My biggest concern is that, in Nero, I cannot seem to get any speeds faster than 8x - no matter what media I try. The actual burning speed seems to be even slower than this, also. In my external 8x recorder, I can burn a disc in 6 and a half minutes or so. Trying those same discs in my NEC takes around 9 and a half minutes, which I find very strange, especially considering this recorder is supposed to be able to do up to 16x (obviously with the right media).

Still, am I incorrect in thinking that the 2.C8 SE firmware should allow me to record at faster speeds than the media is supposed to work? I hear people all the time saying how they got 8x media to record safely at 12x, etc., but obviously I have no option to try that, and am having enough problems trying to get the 8x media to REALLY record at true 8x. Is the problem with Nero, my media, the drive itself, or the firmware? Thanks for any help!

Hi all,

I just bought a ND-3500A (reported as ND-3500AG by Nero InfoTool) and am completely new to DVD burning. This forum is very helpful and I am learning quickly what it's all about.

I do have one question, though. I've decided to download the 2C8SE firmware, but I can't find it anywhere, and seem to be at a dead end. I found 2C8, but that's not the same, right?

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks

The NEC "SE" firmwares are un-official ones and can be found here. This used to be a sticky post...
http://www.cdrinfo.com/forum/tm.asp?m=83010

Also you can always go to the first page of the thread subject...that usually has the links.
http://www.cdrinfo.com/forum/tm.asp?m=82999&mpage=1&key=

But I believe Emperor recommended using the v2.18 official or v2.28 (IO-DATA OEM build) if you want bitsetting.
