Update: 2.C8SE & DVD-RW (OPTODISC W002)

After flashing 2.C8SE I could read but not erase the -RW disk, so I flashed back to 2.16 - and erased the disk without any problem.
Again flashed to 2.C8, I could write and read the disk, but again NERO reported "ungültige disk" ("invalid disk") when trying to erase it.

There must be some problem with 2.C8SE and DVD-RW !!!

Am I the only one who has this problem?

EDIT: just a warning, buffer under run protection IS NOT SUPPORTED with the 2.c8 firmware version.

Silly noob question: does the NEC3500 even have buffer-underrun protection technology?

Look at the Picture at the first Message in this Thread, an then focus the Buffer Underun Checkbox.

On the first page of this thread, click on Attachments at the bottom of Emporer's first message. The file with the firmware you requested can be downloaded from there.

My very first post to CDRinfo... Thanks to everyone for all of the solid work and info!

I have Just upgraded from NEC ND 2500A. I was able to burn RITEKGO4 4x DVD- at 8x with Herrie hacked firmware but can only burn them at 4x with my new 3500 and 2.C8SE. I know that this is normal... However, I'd like to spare myself the research time... so can anyone tell me which media will achieve fastest burn times with this firmware? At this point, I'd be happy with 8x burns, really... but if I could get a decent price on media that would do 16x all the better.

Thanks again....

I don't think this firmware changes the burnspeeds on any media except for DL so believe you're stuck w/ the factory defaults.... at least this is my experiance w/ burning ritek g04s and g05s with this firmware.

Does anybody have the original firmware from the black 3500A that newegg was/is selling for 62 bucks for their turkey day blowout sale ?

I bought that drive but I made the mistake of not backing up my original 2.16 firmware and now I want it back. I don't know what it is with these hacked firmwares but my drive doesn't seem at all better - the eject/load button is laggy (it used to be near instant), CPU usage has gone up dramatically when reading, but it rips faster... I'd rather just have my 3500A the way it was before. I flashed the so-called original stock firmware included on the dangerous brother's 2.16 but I still have the same problems. Then I flashed NEC's official 2.17 and its still the same. So either something messed up my drive or I need the real original 2.16 or something changed on my box (I didn't mess with anything).

If it ain't broke don't fix it!
