I am quite a newb at all this..

I recently purchased a LiteON SOHW-1633S. It looked like a good buy and very versitile. I have been happy with the burning of my other Liteon Drives and decided to give this one a shot. They burn the Ritek A04s great, but the drive is having problems burning the New Dual Layer Ritek Disks D01. These disks aren't cheap either they are like $10. I have been in contact with Liteons Tech Support and they suggested that I upgrade to the latest firmware... Nothing.. Still errors out and gives errors when trying to burn. This problem is noted at http://www.extrememhz.com/sohw1633s-p7.shtml Take a look at it you will see what I am experiencing.
I sent a Smartburn log to the Liteon Techs This is what it said.

Drive Type = DVD DUAL
Disc Type = DVD+R DL (Double Layer)
Disc MID = 52 49 54 45 4B 00 00 00 (RITEK...)
Disc TID = 44 30 31 (D01)
Nominal Capacity = 7.96GB
Manufacturer Maybe = RiTEK Corporation
SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 2.4X (Write)

I was wondering if anyone has been able to overcome this or possibly find a fix or firmware upgrade to this drive that will fix this problem. The Liteon techs are sending me in circles saying it will be ready next week and so on.

Any Help is appriciated.

Thanks,
DaSerg

BS0G worked? From what I heard, BS0H was released specifically to fix the RITEKD01 problem present in BS0G... I've heard conflicting reports of BS0G working and not working with D01.

Hi! I'm a newbie too.

I have just purchased this drive myself. Had to take it back to seller because it would not play all of the brand new region 4 DVD movies that I purchased here in Australia (region 4) and the eject button on the drive would not work every time I wanted to eject a movie, even when I held the button in instead of tapping it.

They gave me another one but same problems.

I have Firmware BSOC which came with the drive but the Liteon web page for firmware only shows BSOC. I see some of you have downloaded BSOG and BSOH from another site. What is this other site? Is it safe to flash from there? Will I loose my warranty if I download from other than the Liteon site?

By the way the player came packaged with the drive and is Power DVD v5. I have the latest version and patch.I run Windows Me.

Apart from the possibility that it is a firmware problem, did you have any problems playing retail DVD movies purchased from a shop or store?

Is there a fix for my problems? I do not want to try burning yet until I get the drive working on playind DVDs and ejecting every time.

Thanks for your advice. CHRIS

I solved the problem!!! I down loaded WINDVD and every DVD now plays without a hitch!

Goodbye Power DVD!!!!!!!!!

Now I am going to burn my first DVD using Decrypter, Shrink and Nero.

Wish me luck.
