A burned disc in a drive may not work perfectly at other drives, it has been discussed many times, there are many factors which can affect the readability of a disc

Hi,
I have a LiteOn DVD Reader ("JLMS XJ-HD163" firm GH5S) ance a NEC 3500A (firm. 2.18 by Liggy), and I can't find any info about the reliability of this reader. Can someone help me?

I'm asking because even using media reported to be good with my burner (TDK DVD+R "TDK 002"), I obtain PI/PIF (K-PROBE) scans that aren't so good:

Reported on CDFreaks (http://club.cdfreaks.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=12027):
Burn speed: 16x
Read Speed: 4x
PI: Max 29, Average 4.95, Total 82261
PIF: Max 3, Average 0.18, Total 2965

Reported by my reader (KPROBE, same version):
Burn speed: 8x
Read Speed: 4x
PI: Max 946, Average 200.7, Total 2958464
PIF: Max 209, Average 103.90, Total 1529723

They differ a lot!
Can I trust this LiteOn, or simply I can trust the name of my 3500?

PsychoWood

PS. Sorry for my english..

[EDIT]
The scan with Nero CD/DVD Speed looks better, but if I'm not wrong I've read that it isn't reliable....

Read Speed: 4x
PI: Max 75, Average 15.34, Total 195166
PIF: Max 6, Average 1.08, Total 73521

I'm lost....

Probably the max speed which used to scan the discs gave the high error rates, LG drives are known to have strong error correction, meaning the disc will be read probably OK at the LG drive, but not at the LiteON DVD-ROM,how about trying a CDSpeed transfer rate?

You can't trust KProbe scans from this drive because KProbe can't change the read speed.
If you check the actual read speed during the scan you will see it goes to 8x even though you have selected 4x.

Nero CD-DVD Speed can change the read speed of the 163 so the scans are more comparable with LiteOn DVD burners.
