Hi LOU and welcome to our forums...
I will try to clear this for you...There isn't a correct/false result when either using LiteON DVDRW/DVDROM drives. All results are CORRECT!
The PI/PIF numbers are not physical errors (like scratches) but are the the results of the reading abilities of the specific pickup/chipset combination.
That means a disc that can read perfectly at one model (832S) can also be un-readable to other model (811S), or with speed drops at other (LTD-166S).
Which reader should you use? The one that gives the less, medium or the highest error rates? No-one can give you an definatly answer, at least without proving its statements are correct.
For example we have noticed that:
* sometimes 811S gives PI/PIF error rates that matches the famous CATS.
* 832S generally gives much lower PI/PIF error rates than 811S
* 1213S again give much lower PI/PIF error rates than 811S
Which reading speed shoud you select? 1X/2X/4X/6X/8X? Again, no-one can give you too a definatly answer, proving its statements are correct.
The believe that 4X CLV is correct/ok/good to use is simply outrageous...Reading this
thread will unveil the whole truth to you.
Since there are so many problems with LiteON drives, we decided to use a reading graph at 16X with 167T and Plextor PX-712A to measure discs...
Of course everyone its free to make its own testing procedure, however should make at least a research, since users can be mislead very...easily
