Hi everyone, wise emperor! Firstly Im new here to the forums, nice place you got going here, I am also new to NEC3500AG, having received mine (in the UK) from Dabs.com for £58 inc. I got this drive because my Pioneer 106 died on my recently (two months out of warranty grrr) and on this basis decided to go with the NEC instead of the Pioneer 108, backed up by the glowing "top dog" review in this months Computer Shopper magazne which reviewed 12 DVD-RW drives, and this came out fastest :) Was surprised to see that comparison review against the 108, which showed it faster in a lot of tests, plus the 3500 higher noise / errors? Anyway, after reading through the posts here, and burning with the drive today, I have a few questions I would love some help on! 1, Anyway, the firmware question. I have some Datawrite 90 min cd-rs (which write to 96 mins) and also some of their 99 min cds. I had the original 2.16 firmware and tonite flashed to the 2.17 from here. It still only recognises the media in nero as being able to write at 8x speed, as opposed to 24x speed?? Also, is there any firmware to allow more "overburning" to utilise the maximum of this media? 2, I have a load of 4x DVD+R media left over from my pioneer 106 (bulkpaq and infiniti). Is there any firmware to let me burn this at 8x speed, or is that just greedy :) Even if I could, would it be a good idea, would I get a lot of read errors?! 3, Finally, once I have got through this lot of blanks, I will have the game of playing what 8x media to get that will burn ok at 8x, or even faster! Still not sure exactly where to look for this advice? Thanks again, keep up the great work :)) Bovine
