here are quality scans we got with the Memorex D² (F16). In a few days we will have quality results from the external Memorex 16X recorder...!!!

I burn around 10 dvds a week. For me quality of burn is more important than shaving a few minutes of overall burn times. My choice is made!! I am going to buy the 108! (unless of course I see more confusing posts that once again make me consider the NEC 3500)

Both drives have new firmware revisions. Better check CDRinfo's reviews about them.

Thank you I have read the reviews and understood some of it. Reading them has caused me to review my own requirements. I am currently using a Pioneer 107. What do I want from a new dvd burner?

1. Reliability. Very few coasters, in fact no coasters. My Pioneer 107 has only produced 3 out of several hundred discs burned and those were caused by overoptimistic ‘on the fly’ burning from someone else’s scratched and finger marked discs.

2. Ease of use. I am getting on a bit. 43 in fact I just connected the 107 to my pc and xp did the rest. I use Nero 6, DVD Decrypter, Alcohol 120 and DVDshrink. I learned how to use these pieces of software from helpful web sites. However I am at my limit. Talk about Mount Rainier to me and I am lost (is it in France?) no wait, a minute isn’t he a prince?

3. Price. My 107 cost me £80 several months ago. That is a lot of money. I will be lucky to get £20 for it. Do I really want to spend £50 on a new Burner?

The answer is yes I do. That’s the problem. I have this huge desire we all share to upgrade. But I will bide a wee while and read these forums. You are smart people and I am sure you will all finally decide on the Pioneer 108.

How do these compare? Drive is NEC 3500 with firmware 2C8 or Liggy's Beta 8 (I changed between these discs)

Ritek G04 burned at 8x.

Ritek R03 burned at 8x.

Prodisc R03 burned at 8x.

nedder, two things that I can see wrong with your Kprobe scan. 1) You used a DVDRom drive to scan & 2) You scanned at "MAX" speed.(scan at 4X)

Re-scan at 4X and they should look much better.

BTW, this is my 1st post. Hello all.

I think it is time to "REDO" this test with each drives latest firmware!

As an example, I've included my scans of 16X burn on 8X rated media (sorry, I don't own the 16X media that started this thread) with the latest released firmware (B7P9) for the BenQ and I think it runs with the best here! The burn was a little slow at 6:23, but it is 8X media!
