when is the next firmware going to be released from nec, and will it support RIDATA DL disc (ritek)?

i found a hacked firmware too for it from www.herrie.org

New NEC 3500A firmware 2.17 with RITEK DL and Bitsetting Support!

does this work, has any1 tried it yet?

I read somewhere, that NEC are going to release an update with support, they are just in the testing stage, and do not want to release until they are sure of the quality

Herries firmware is not a new firmware, its the firmware from TDK 1616n renamed to NEC 3500 v2.17.

As soon as NEC releases a new firmware we will let you know people, keep tuned

i got an e-mail from nec support (sweden) today 7/9 and they told me to expect the new firmware to be released in about 2 weeks, i hope i don't have to wait that long to test my ridata DL disc's, and if the new firmware don't support the disc i'll return the burner with the argument that the burner sux and doesn't work.

OK this is getting rather annoying. Pioneer firmware comes out on a daily basis nearly, and here we are with our NECs playing a waiting game for a firmware that is out there but we cant have it. This sucks.

Yes as it seems Pioneer is on the run, but then again their drive needed those firmware updates to fine tune the drive

As much as this might convince some people on here, after reading all the tests so far it seems that the NEC needs new firmware more then the pioneer with regards to quality of write and writing 8x@12x.

Any other excuses for not giving us the firmware that you are hiding?

Yes the latest TDK 1616n 2.78 firmware its even newer than the one (2.07) we are "hiding", i wouldn't call it "hide", for obvious reasons we cannot release it

got an e-mail from Nec support sweden, now they say it could come out at the end of this month.
what the he** are they doing down there, does it take one month+ to make a firmware upgrade to allow more media to function for DL writing, i have only been waiting for 3 weeks to get my ridata disc's to work
