I have flashed the drive to the 710a firmware, but i still cant fix the problem with readin DVD-r, i've tried reading another dvd-r from verbatim which my housemate burnt, doesnt work as well..........it works fine with their drives though.

What is the way you are using to burn a media? Imean do you have any type of conversion or compression?

yes the DW-D22A is the same as 710A, the OEM version, firmware should more or less be the same, so if you had problems with BYS1, the BY01 won't help much...wait for a newer firmware from SONY, or crossflash with LiteON SOHW-1633S firmware to get the latest media support

i am practically new to DVDrw's , not too sure on the conversion or compression thingy, just used all nero's default.......
basically just burning some files to the dvd.

How do i do the crossflash? Just get the liteon firmware and flash it?

tried it, flashed it.........still doesnt read that DVD-r , dont know why . Havent tried burning another dvd, ran out of dvds

how about return the drive back and get a new one? since firmware doesn't seem to solve this, drive could be damaged

alrite, bought some 4x dvd+r to try it out, it works, burns fine with 4x dvd+r .
Im thinkin it could be a problem with handling 2x media's, what do u think, im gonna try it on a 4x or 8x DVD-R next, see if it still comes up with a problem.

Hmm, you tried 2X media to burn at higher speeds? Maybe thats the cause

i have a sony dru 710a.My problem is that when i put a dvd for burning the writing speeds becomes greyed and when i burn the dvd fails at lead out phase.

I used the latest nero and sony and imation 4x.

Can anybody tell what to do to solve the problem?
