I have a Yamaha 3200EZ CDRW drive. To upgrade the firmware they say to disable to DMA auto setting. I cannot find this in the Properties dialog box anywhere, and the WEB site does not offer instructions for XP. Does this setting exist in XP, if so how and when should I disable it?

Run Google: DMA setting XP; you'll get many illustrated guides.

Go into Control Panel > Performance / Maintenance / System.

if you have GUI options disabled it will just be under Control Panel / System.

Once you're in System, go to hardware, then click the Device Manager button.

One of the things listed will be ATA/IDE/ATAPI Controller.. Might be under hard drive controller, but it's something of the like.

Click the (+) tab.

If your CDR drive is under the secondary IDE controller, you want to right click on that option and click properties. If on Primary controller, select properties on that.

Then in one of the tabs on top (don't remember, in win98 at the moment), it will list DMA settings for the different devices. Under your CDRW drive (or primary / slave whichever your drive is configured to) change the setting to PIO Mode Only.

Accept changes, restart, and you're on your way. If your burner was doing fine with DMA, make sure you go back after flashing, and change it back to DMA mode.

Good luck!
