I am trying to create a VCD using MPEG files, but when I try to do it, during the encoding process, encoding always halts whenever it trys to encode a certain file and displays the path of the file and an icon that is represented by one of those things for when a graphic is not present. I have the MPEG converter to convert some of my files that are not VCD compliant. Any ideas what might be my problem?

I am using Nero 5.5.9.17, Win 98SE, P3 700mHz, 256 MB RAM

What size is the source file.

Nero and NeroVision has a known issue with MPEG files over 2gig in size. We hope to have this resolved in our next release of Nero and NeroVision.

AVI files over 2gig is not an issue.

Regards,

Craig

Hi Craig,
I hope you don't mind my jumping in here but I have been desperately searching for someone to answer a question for me and you might just be the one!
I'm using the latest release of Nerovision.(1.0.4.2b) My capture device is an ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 8500DV. This card lets me do an unattended capture and lets me set the max file size as 650 meg. When I run the file through NVE it adds overhead to the file (not unexpected) which makes the file...lets say 670 meg. Everything is fine so far because I'm writing to a 700 meg cdr.
Here's where the problem arises. NVE assumes 650 megs as a default. If I load a 10 meg file it says "10 of 650m" and so on. If I load the 650 meg file which winds up to be 670, when I try to burn it, it will get to the writing process and say...
"unable to prepare data for recording, no space left on harddisk for temporary files (internal error 2)". When I load a file where {file size + overhead < 650m} I don't get the error and everything is bright and sunny! Might you have any idea on a work-around this problem?
I have spent endless hours researching this. I have nero's help system memorized!
It wouldn't be a huge problem if ATI's software would let me set the max file size to 600m instead of 650 to allow for nero's overhead buyt it doesn't.
Any ideas you might have would be a God-send for me!
Thanks,
Mel

Hi Mel,

How much HD space do you have on your HD?

I ran a test with Nero VisionExpress 1.042b with a 650MB AVI file writing to a 700MB CD and I was not able to duplicate your issue.

Do you have this trouble with other 650MB AVI files or only those created with the ATI Wonder Board?

Regards,

Craig

When I try to burn, I select the test and burn option, the simulation is successful and then the burn process starts and then I get an internal target error. I checked the CD and there is nothing written on it. This has happened about 3 times. What is preventing the burn from being successful? I am using nero 5.5.10.15 on Win98SE on a P3 700mHz

The Nero log file just shows the Generic error of the Internal Target Failure, but does not point out what caused this error.

Do you only have trouble with this one Video Creation? If you use a different Video source file do you run into this issue? Or just a smaller selection?

I also see drivers from the Roxio software on your system. This could be the conflict. Please try uninstalling the Roxio software and locating the below files and rename them to .bac extensions.

File 'IoSubSys\SCSI1HLP.VXD
File 'IoSubsys\CDR4VSD.VXD
File 'IoSubsys\CDRALVSD.
File 'IoSubsys\ACBHLPR.VXD'

Craig

Craig,

I renamed those files you told me to and the burn was successful. When I look in explorer and my 703 MB CD is 699 MB full. I burned it as a VCD. When I tried to play it using WMP, it said that the format of the file is not supported by WMP. But I have played other VCDs just fine with WMP before. Any idea what I did wrong?

Congratulations!

Renaming these drivers was suggested by CCampbell, and re-iterated by me, on Dec. 10 as a fix for your earlier problem in the thread

http://www.cdrinfo.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7847

In other words, it took you almost four months to follow this simple recommendation. And of course you have been posting on having other burning problems in the meantime...

Sorry, but I couldn't resist!

Did you create a VCD or an SVCD?

If you did SVCD, you need software like PowerDVD 4.0 or later or WinDVD 4.0 or later to support this format. As Windows Media Player will not.

I created a VCD, not SVCD. and WMP will not play the VCD. WMP played other VCDs that I made. I am using Nero 5.5.10.15

"unable to prepare data for recording, no space left on harddisk for temporary files (internal error 2)".

I also get this same message, and I am wondering why, I am not sure if it has something to do with My computer (DELL) or is I screwed up and someone in my apartment screwed up and downloaded something wrong. Of course Dell has been no help what so ever, they say the same thing everytime. If you come up with an answer please let me know.

Are you going in and selecting the DAT File on the VCD to play with WMP? If you download a Demo version of PowerDVD or WinDVD, are these able to play the VCD you create?

Yes, when I use WMP to play the VCD, I click on the DAT file in the VCD. I have not tried to play it with the other software. Where can I get that? I have tried to play VCDs with another software. I insert the VCD, press play, and other VCDs work but not the one that I have been mentioning..

Hi,
I get the same error message regarding the lack of space on the harddisk.
I did have Roxio software which has been uninstalled and I was trying to rename the drivers listed to see if I could solve the problem. When I search for them I can only find them in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\DATA.CAB and the file names have a number in front ie F85538_Cdralvsd.vxd
Are these the files I should be renaming to .bac extensions? Sorry, I'm a computing amateur and need all the help I can get!!
I have a total of 10 files in this folder all with .vxd extensions. Should I rename them all or just those you have indicated?
I am on XP - let me know if you need further system info.
Many thanks.

Welcome to the CDR-Info Forum!

I presume you are referring to the .vxd drivers mentioned by CCampbell. These drivers are not used under XP.

Hence I'm wondering why you are seeing them on your XP box at all.

Did you upgrade to XP from 98, 98SE or ME by running the XP installation disc and telling it to upgrade your existing OS? Then you might have leftovers from your older OS, and you may expect all sorts of weird problems because an upgrade is not the same as installing XP from scratch. If this is the case, I would recommend to reformat your HDD and run a clean installation of XP.

Otherwise, you may uninstall Nero via Add/Remove Programs, and install the latest version 5.5.10.20 from Ahead's site. Sometimes problems with Nero's message about the lack of space on the HDD disappear once Nero is reinstalled properly (assuming of course that there is enough free space on the HDD). You should also update XP to SP1, unless you have it already.
