Hello,

I have a LG GCE-8080B drive which is dead after a bad firmware update. While updating the firmware, system restarted and I'm left with a dead drive which is not detected by Mobo Bios / Firmware utilities. Even MTKFLASH doesn't respond.

This drive was bought in Germany but even though I'm in Korea now LG refused to provide me International warranty saying the drive was not purchased in Korea.

Can any of you please help me to recover this drive?

For any Koreans in the forum, is there a place in Seoul where it's possible to get this repaired without paying a kings ransom to LG for changing the whole CDR mother board?

Btw, LG is not a bad company and surely I recommend LG drives for Price / Performance advantage.

Hi, i had the same problem.

After broken Update, no LED was blinking or burning.

But that is not a problem, your drive is not dead.

just type in dos-mode:

JE4.exe filename.hex Portnumber /m

like

JE4.exe JE4LG501.hex 1 /m for IDE PRIMARY MASTER

JE4.exe JE4LG501.hex 2 /m for IDE PRIMARY SLAVE

JE4.exe JE4LG501.hex 3 /m for IDE SECONDARY MASTER

JE4.exe JE4LG501.hex 4 /m for IDE SECONDARY SLAVE

the /m Option is important

I think I tried this before but the Firmware updater (JE4.EXE) said that this is not the intended drive. And if my memory serves me correct with the /m option. But anyways let me check again per your instructions. Btw, can you please confirm that your drive is 8080B and it's working now?
