LG 4120B DVD-Session problems - 8/5/2004 9:54:32 AM

Hi guys! Some days ago I bought the LG 4120B dvd recorder and I applied the firmware update that changes the booktype to dvd-rom.

I had one dvd+r disk with 2 sessions burned (with Nero) already with another dvd-recorder, a Pionner one on a friend's laptop.
My PC's dvd-rom (reader) drive (the other one) was 'seeings' both sessions regularly.

I added another session (again with Nero) to this dvd+r, but neither my other dvd-rom drive nor my stand-alone dvd-player were
able to see the new session.

I though that the firmware update was the culprit, so I applied the original firmware and added another session, but again ... nothing!
My other drive (Sony DVD-Rom) was unable to see the third and the fourth sessions, although the LG drive could see them without problems!

Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance!

I imagine all drives beside the DVD writers will see only the latest session

First of all, DVD multisession is not recommended since the disc might not be readable from some dvd drives, or OS prior to WinXP.... I got this message from nero...

I just checked the disc i created with some drives... The disc is readable with all DVD recorders, but not with our Toshiba dvd reader (only the first session was redable). However, the disc was readable with all LiteON DVD readers... \

There is nothing wrong with the drive, but as i mentioned, dvd multisession is not fully supported by nero or by WinXP... and it is not recommended...

If you need any more info about this, just post and we 'll be back to you....

My question is that how is it possible that my dvd-reader (Sony) sees both the sessions I created with the Pioneer laptop's recorder,
but cannot see either session I created with LG?

Does this have to do with the fact that I created many sessions with different recorders?
I mean, if I create two - three sessions with LG, will I be able to read them with the Sony DVD-Reader?

It is better for sure to use the same recorder when continuing a multisession disc... So, it should be compatible with all drive able to read multisession dvd discs... What model is your sony reader?

I cannot tell you the model right now, because I am at work...

What I know though is that it is able to read mulitsession dvd - discs because it could read both the first two sessions from the laptop's recorder.

Have you tried creating a multisession dvd+r with LG? Did your drd reader see both (at least) sessions?

Of 'course... i did it this morning...

I made 2 sessions (one with NEC and one with PIONEER drive) and then burned two more sessions with LG drive... I already mentioned the results above...

I also burned 4 sessions with LG drives, using a blank disc, and again there was no problem...

Maybe the laptop's dvdr is not compatible with the LG drive... too common for dvd burners when creating multisession discs...

But i already told you... DVD MULTISESSION WRITTING IS NOT RECOMMENDED SINCE NOT ALL DRIVES ARE COMPATIBLE

try to make a start a new multisession disc and you will see what i mean...

Yes, I finally burned 2 sessions with LG 4120B,
but my SONY DVD-ROM DDU1612 cannot see the 2nd session!

Is this because I had changed region code on Sony drive?

Sony has region code 2, meanwhile LG: not selected

No, maybe its a problem of the SONY drive, have you tried to update the firmware of your drive?
