According to Deppe, CD DVD Speed Pro 3.10 supports Toshiba SD-M1802 for PI/PO scanning.

Has anybody investigated this?

What are the results like compared to Benq, LiteOn and Plextor drives?

But since its error correction abilities as demonstrated to related topics are very good, i imagine would report low error rates...I suppose

Thanks for saving me some work.

Let's hope it gets corrected and the feature works for Toshiba drives in the future as well.

Toshiba is of course interesting if it would allow PI/PO scanning with speeds up to 16x (with hacked firmware). Just to see how the number of errors scales when speed rises to really high rotational speeds.

How about LG and Samsung combo drives?

Those are also advertised as having PI/PO scanning with CD DVD Speed 3.x.

Have you tried those?

Halcyon, i will ask Erik again to see what happened, last time, he didn't had the drive himself, someone told him it works, i told him doesn't work so...

About the LG/Samsung models:

*LG GCC-4520B
* Samsung SM-352B

We don't have both drives, let me see what i can do...

I found out in the long CD-DVD Speed thread at cdfreaks, that v3.0 should work with SD-M1802, but that there is a problem with v.3.10 which should be fixed in a later release.

Also, there appears that the Toshiba drives have trouble reading various DVD+R and DVD+RW discs sporadically, even if they read ok in a big number of other drives. Some say that Optodisc DVD-R discs are problematic also.

I'm still very eager to get this drive for scanning as it allows 16x speeds and it costs only 23 euros.

Please let us know if any of you have this drive and can try it with CD Speed for PI/PO scanning.

When Erik fixes the problem with the Toshiba drive, we will test it and see what it reports

Don't use it for DAE ... I'll get myself a BTC DVD-ROM tomorrow

From my experience, the Toshiba DVD-ROM drives (1602/1702) are not very good at DAE ... low C2 accuracy and audio caching, combined with a low tolerance towards disc errors and slowish performance ...

I'd go for a LiteOn anytime ... especially since the Toshis seem to be somewhat picky towards recognition of certain DVD media types (which is a P.I.T.A. these times ...) :D

I have to test the 1802 with the abex test discs to see if there are major differences with the previous 1612/1712

JeanLuc,

thanks for the info. I ordered one anyway (to check DVD burns for PI/PO in addition to my Plextor 712, BenQ DW1600, LiteOn 851S, LG 4480B and Optorite DD0401).

I think I'll keep on using LiteOn and Plex Premium for DAE though, I trust your findings.

BTW, I sold my BTC DVD-rom due to lack of space (no more room in my controllers nor my case), but I already feel bad about it. It was really good in scratched disc reading. Reasonably fast, not the best c2 accuracy, but excellent error concealment (and this wasn't even the latest model).

I'll report back on SD-M1802 + PI/PO (or is it PI/PIF, hard to say yet) results when I get it and have it tested.

Emperor,

great! If you have time to do the Abex tests, I'm really interested in seeing them myself.

Thanks!
