I checked http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares.html and it seems that the download isn't available anymore. Is it still a good idea to upgrade my 812S to a 832 with DL burning support?

I want to upgrade my 812S to be as fast as possible and support more features while still being on the safe side and not hurting the stability or my drive itself.

I REALLY want to upgrade my drive. :)

Thanks guys!

Yes, I did pull the prepatched 812S@832S firmware from my site. The file that emperor links to no longer contains 812S@832S and only has 51S@832S.

Why did I do this?

The 812S@832S prepatched firmware is essentially identical to taking an unscrambled 832S stock firmware, loading it in OmniPatcher, and clicking the "enable crossflashing" box. However many people have failed to recognize that there isn't anything special about the pre-patched 812S@832S firmware and that it's the same as an OmniPatched stock 832S firmware. As a result, we got lots of questions asking "should I use the prepatched 812S@832S firmware or should I use OmniPatcher on the stock firmware?" Instead of getting more of those questions and having to respond "um, they're the same" each time, we have decided to reduce the amount of confusion by pulling the prepatched 812S@832S firmware.

See: http://codeguys.rpc1.org/oc.html

It's also a good idea to get people into the habit of using OP to create their own 812S@832S instead of relying on us to put out a prepatched version.

I can personally attest that the hack works really well

The hack was FANTASTIC, I did use OP to add some media burn speeds, but it was fantastic.... Also as stated above, you can use the stock firmware and create your own!

For Code65536, OmniPatcher will NOT read a stock firmware to flash it own your own, it states that it's scrambled, so you cannot do such! Is there an answer for this?

Right, this is what I have done..... I was stating that it will not work with just Omni as stated above, other tools are needed...... would be "GREAT" if it would

OP versions 1.2.0 and above should provide a list of websites where you can find unscrambled stock versions. This is displayed in the error message that OP gives when it thinks that the firmware is scrambled.

I should also add that, for a while, OP did have the ability to unscramble and work directly with the official stock firmwares. This was the 1.1.x series. XFlash-X, at one point in time, also had this ability. We were forced by outside influences to remove that feature from both OP and XFX (the only feature removal that I had ever done for OP and XFX). Starting with the 1.2.x series of OP, the ability to handle the scrambled firmwares no longer exists.

I imagine we all understand who forced you to remove the unscramble functions...

Is the 1213S likely to be DL hackable - when a DL version of the drive appears?
I'm guessing that is "51S" drives dating back to the 451S can hack to DL, the 3S hardware should certainly be capable, unless they deliverately cripple it.

And is the patcher useful with the 1213S ?

Yes and yes.

Though I'd recommend that you use the latest OP-1.3.7 for the 3S drives, and there have been a few 3S-specific bugfixes made recently.

Perhaps not such a bad choice after all then - I was begining to worry at the lousy results it was getting in some comparisons, but it wasn't much dearer than the 8x8 speed model - looks like pressure from forthcoming 16x models is already telling - or the lack of 12x marked media!

Are the "recommended" strategy adjustments different - or is the firmware too immature for it even to be worth figuring out?
