first of all get the latest 2.16 version bin file (http://www.cdrinfo.com/forum/tm.asp?m=73532#), and the dos flasher (http://tdb.rpc1.org/firmware/NEC2X00A.ZIP)...

Make a bootdisk (i reccomend Dr.DOS from www.bootdisk.com) and put the dos flasher and the bin file in it...

use a second disk and put the dos flasher in it...

You are ready to reboot... from the start up disk of course...

Insert the second disk, with only the flasher in it, and type the following (if you have the drive as secondary master):
nec2x00a -sec -mas -out BACK.BIN

this will back up your existing firmware... the parameter -sec means that you have the drive as a secondary drive (if this is as primary, you have to type -pri)
the parameter -mas means that you have the drive as master (if this is a secondary drive you have to type -sla)

now insert the first disk with the new 2.16 bin file you downloaded and type:
nec2x00a -sec -mas -flash 216.BIN

Again, the parameter -sec means that you have the drive as a secondary drive (if this is as primary, you have to type -pri)
the parameter -mas means that you have the drive as master (if this is a secondary drive you have to type -sla)

If something goes wrong, you can always flash it to its original state with the firmware back up you got...

Of course DO NOT turn of your pc while flashing...

i'm here if you need any extra help... happy flashing
