I guess you're not the only one. I've read many post on different forums that the -r results are (very) dissapointing (very high errorrates or coasters). Looks like benq or the philips-chipset isn't able to burn -r(w) correctly. I think benq better can make the 16x0 burners just for +r(w) / +r9-dl and finetune it so they have the "perfect" + media burner.

My 1600-1620 has done one minus with acceptable error rates at 4x, another type it stopped at about a gig and sat there so I rebooted rather then wait forever, another it burned at 2x but it was no good so yup minus still needs some work.
I also have a nice NEC 2500 and a crap 811 I use for testing and the ocassional cdr burn so at leasst for me all is not lost .
It seems to do about equal to the 2500 with plus so far as far as quality but wont over clock any 4x to 8 like the NEC yet.

Emperor when can we expect some scan to compare a real 1620 and an upgraded 1620?
I'm very curious to see if there are any differances in burnquality.

wntr, review of DW1620A has finished, hopefully we can post it at Monday, as for comparisons between real 1620 and upgraded 1620, still havent received a new DW1600 drive

Someone did post a Verbatim - 8x score that wasn't too bad at cdfreaks. Pi max 203 avg=22.29 tot=136,482; PIF max=2, avg=.01 total=41

Yes i can confirm that the results with Verbatim 8X -R were very good, Dolphy for sure would be a long review, 27 pages

Out of curiosity, did any medium grade media (not Mitsubishi or TY) DVD-R media work ok? Say Optodisc, Ritek, or Prodisc?
