@emperor

Do you have any info on changes in this firmware? Does Benq have any comments about it?

I read on several forums that both firmwares are very bad. The results on +r burning are great but -r causes lock-ups. I'm sure it's better to wait for the official release.
I'm afraid that if you used the beta-upgrade you can't use the official upgrade since it only works on a 1600 and you guys now have a 1620.

Ok here is scan of tdk DVD-R 4x media TTG01 of 1620 B7H9 fw burn

nero 6.3.1.20 3.5gb video data.

As you can see with the right media brand it does not lockup and does burn very well
On side note as this was movie I played it through and other then a slight stutter in one or two places
it was good disk, btw the stutter could have been the player as I've seen it do this with retail disks now and then.

Well if the firmware was beta for testing perhaps its what we should do, download and test. maybe perhaps they can get alot more feedback and be happy.

Anyword on when the non-beta firmware may be released? I noticed the DW1610 firmware version is B8B9. I wonder what's in a real DW1620?

Ha....looks like many people are expecting to see the DW1620's testing result.

I have heard the DW1620 is scheduled to be released and available in stock on early Aug. But now is on mid of Aug and is going to the late Aug. Does any one know when will DW1620 be available in stock?

Digital Research has been selling the DW1600 under their label at Office Depot. IO Magic has just announced a 16X Dual Format/Dual Layer burner also. Since Digital Research has ties with IO Magic could this new drive be a Benq DW1620?

Interesting. Your official dw1620 has firmware several revisions below the beta firmware(B7C9 vs B7H9)

Why doesn't Benq bring out an upgrade based on this B7C9 firmware? I'm starting to get a feeling that 1600, 1610 and 1620 are all different in hardware. I've read several times that an upgraded 1600 to a 1620 has a better +r burnquality then a 1600. So even if you don't use -r you should upgrade for the better burnquality.
