While writing from an image file in CloneCD, I get the error message "Power Calibrating failed: Sense Key 5, ASC 0x20, ASQ 0x00"

I've copied this exact CD before in the past with no problem. It seems to me that my Sanyo CRD-BP1700P has been real finniky lately.

Is it something I'm doing wrong with the settings, ect?

Or should I send the drive in to have it fixed/replaced?

All late model writers do some PC in the PC Area and I suspect it doesn't like the media - try changing it. It is not unusual for laser units to deteriorate over time, either.

Try another brand of CD, some drives are picky. Let us know if that helps....

No, that didn't work.

Also, it used to work fine with these CD's anyway, so I think something must be wrong.

Another symptom I'm seeing is that while using Nero, it only gives me the option to burn at 2x, regardless of the media, whereas I used to be able to burn at 40x.

Power calibration errors are probably not an aspi problem. It could be your media or your drive's laser unit is failing, as FutureProof says.

I agree, but he says he tried other media, so before suspecting the drive try the ASPI layer first, can not hurt. But I think you may be right....

Try also to reduce the burning speed to 8X, 12X, may help with some drives
