Download a prepatched firmware, uncompress, and run the .exe... it couldn't get any easier.

iceCube, we must look at this feature, cause its currently enabled only for specific persons, you can however link external pictures from other webservers...

There are two packages marked with "812S@832S." Either will work. One has our "burn-adjust" feature, and the the other does not. That's the only difference between the two. Look at the documentation for the "burn-adjust" version to see what BA offers. If it sounds like something that you want to have in your firmware, then use the BA version. Otherwise, use the other version..

NEW question.

what is the best way ?

a burner sohw812S cost (in belgium ~93,88)
but the new NEC ND-2510 how is originaly a DualLayer burner cost ~106

so what is better ? buy the sohw812S and upgrade it ?
or buy the NEC ND-2510? (but this one is out of stock for now ! (grr)

This boils down to the old LiteOn-vs.-NEC debate. Both the 812S (flashed to a 832S) and the 2510A can do DL.

Both drives have their strengths and weaknesses, which one you pick depends on what you want in a drive. I won't go into more detail in this post because I've already posted about this before... (and I'm too lazy to find my old post and copy & paste what I said... but you could look at my post history and find that post...)

ok thanks (i was looking in the 812 section not 832 )
a couple of last things.
I have never done this before so could you tell me what could happen to my drive if they don't work could it break it? If so can i flash it back to official lite-on firmware.
Last thing is i have downloaded the file Without burn adjust which has one executable, when i double click on it do i get a choice of drives? Because i also have a pioneer DVD-ROM and i wouldn't wanna flash that.

Am I right in assuming that my Sony DWU18A = LiteOn SOHW-812S, and therefore can be flashed to DRU700A/832S?

It's fairly safe. LiteOn drives are hard to kill. If the flash goes wrong for some reason, you can still recover the drive.

And yes, if you run the .exe, it will give you a list of drives. BE SURE YOU SELECT THE RIGHT ONE!
