401S chipset: MT1816E/MT1818E 411S/811S chipset: MT1816E/MT1818E 451S/851S chipset: MT1816E/MT1818E 812S/832S chipset: MT1816E/MT1818E 1213S chipset: finally, first LiteOn-made DVD-writer *not* to have the MT1816E/MT1818E The chipset has not changed since the 401S, and the 401S and 832S actually share identical chipsets. This is why if you flash a 832S firmware only a 401S, the drive will still be recognized by the system, the tray will still work, lights will still blink etc. What is preventing the crossflash is not the chipset, but the other hardware components. Which is why if you flash a 401S with a 832S, you won't even be able to read a CD, much less burn a DVD (and because the chipset is identical, the drive isn't "dead", and all of the drive's basic functions like reading/writing firmware were still intact, so it was very easy to flash back, without needing to use mtkflash). Having the OPU model number is not enough, as there are a number of other important hardware components, too, such as analog filters, motors, signal processors, etc. The 401S/411S/811S family is simply too far removed from the 8x2S family in terms of hardware for a crossflash to be possible... the 451S/851S is actually very closely related to the 8x2S family. They're actually closer to the 8x2S family than they are to the 11S family. This is evidenced by how single-layer burning worked (except for 8x -R... the drive will fail at the 4x->6x upshift point) with the older 812S firmwares like UYS1 or US05 loaded onto a 451S. This 51S@812S crossflash only worked (partially, of course, as 8x -R wasn't there) with the very early 812S revisions; it completely stopped working with the newer ones.
