I am testing a 812-832 conversion of the LiteOn Drive.. when I have some definitive conclusive results, I will post them... so far everything is okay.. I am particularly wondering about the longtime life of the laser after this firmware upgrade. The DL media is EXTREMELY hard to come by right now, and I almost had to donate a kidney to get it...

MP3Mogul let us know about the conversion results when you are ready!

As for the laser lifetime...that's another story

I noticed something on the nero infotool screenshot. There are some extra writing features: RAW DAO 16, RAW SAO 16 when compared to the normal 2500a. Does it mean that with the DL firmware you can also use these new strategies? I must admit that I have no idea whether this is technically possible. My version of nero infotool is 2.07.

Bert Vi try updating your Nero InfoTool with the latest one and compare the results, the original NEC 2500A should already supported RAW DAO/SAO 16

Minos, you can backup the TDK 880N firmware before making any upgrade but the current flasher won't return the drive back from 2510->2500A (and TDK 880N).

I knew I was finally ahead of the curve when I got this drive in a Pacific digital box in March at OfficeMax for 69 bucks
All the great hacks for it just keep coming and now Dual layer too as I suspected when I bought it.
My liteOn 811 is used mostly just for testing now and the few disks the 2500 doesn't like. Might try a 812 if the feedback stays good. I'll never buy another 811 again though.
