I'm having trouble making my 2500A into a DL writer.  I flashed with 107v2b5d and DVDInfroPro recognizes it as a DVD+R DL and it sees my discs as DL but I can't get anything to burn onto them.  NeroInfoTool does not recognize it as DL and it and Roxio both say my discs are CD-R when they are DVD+R DL. Any ideas?

Hi there.  I just tried to upgrade my firmware with the 1.07 patch referenced here.  I had v1.06 to start with.

I have a stack of 16x DVD-R's that worked fine (at 4x) before (with v1.06) I tried the update (to v1.07) and won't work at all after.  My 8x DVD-Rs still work (at 4x).  Nero does seem to think that I can now write DL DVDs, but I haven't tested this yet.

Are there any further updates that would prevent these from being expensive coasters?  I can't even downgrade to v1.06 as I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Here is the relevant info:

I can show the ones for the 8x disc, but they just look normal.

As I said, it worked with the 8x disc, although it wouldn't recognize it as 8x.  I have written 8x discs before so I just assumed it was a compatibility issue and that was the reason I started looking for updates!

I would appreciate any help you can give me

Manufacturer ID...you can use something like DVDInfoPro or DVD Identifier to get this info from the disc.

You might want to use the 2.F9 for the latest goodies.

Here's an NEC archive that is actively maintained by ScorpioSoft.

Although Liggy & Dee's page is where the action really happens.  UPDATE: Looks like they have gone off-line!!!

I have found out another problem, my recoerder does not work with Verbatim DVDR of 16x, Nero says invalid disk. I have a friend with the same recorder without the update and he says the same disks work on his recorder, so I guess it is a problem of the firmware. Until now, every DVD+-R worked well, even 8x, but this is the first time I try 16x. Also, nero detects them as 2.4x disks, not 16x or 8x.

I have installed Nero 7 Ultra Edition also to see if the problem of DL gets solved, but I will not be able to test it until I have some DVD9 to burn.

I have been looking to see if I did any backup of the original firmware, but I only found a bin file with name ver107BK.bin, I do not think this is the original, grrrr... I can´t believe I did not do a backup, snifff...

Best regards and thank you.

Well, I have partially solved my problem, it was a problem of the firmware, I installed the oficial 1.06 and the disc was now working, but at 4x, I installed oficial 1.07 and again, only at 4x, so I had to install oficial 1.0A to get the real speed of the discs, but of course, I have lost the DL capability, anyway, I was not able to record any DL disc I tried, so.....

Now a question, is there any modded firmware with DL capability that is newer than the 1.07? In this caase, I will try with the new one, I am interested in going on trying to get DL capability to work.

Best regards and thank you.

If booktype bitsetting is not that important to you, then the latest firmware you can flash is the 205C or 205D (hacked to add more media).
http://www.micheldeboer.nl/firmware/25x0/NECND251_205C.zip
http://www.micheldeboer.nl/firmware/25x0/205d_rpc1.zip

But if you really need to booktype your DVD+R(W) discs, then go with the 2.F9 that I mentioned above.
http://www.micheldeboer.nl/firmware/25x0/25x0_2F9_RPC+RL.rar

Do not worry, all the NEC ND-2xxx are the same hardware.  Just make sure you use the NEC binflash to update the firmware and not the integrated firmware updater from NEC (ex:  the 205C above comes with the NEC updater).

Best regards and thank yo in advance, I will try these firmwares....

Yes, all three of those are for the ND-2510 which supports +R DL media.  Booktype is a descriptor on +R(W)(DL) media that helps make it compatible with older console DVD players.  Basically you change it to "DVD-ROM" and it tells the player to treat the media like pressed DVD-ROM media.

FWIW, the 205D auto-booktype's the DVD+R DL media to "DVD-ROM" but doesn't let you change the booktype on DVD+R(W) media.  I suggest you try that one first since it is the latest and probably last firmware for the ND-2xxx series.

First of all, thank you for all your good and fast support. Yesterday I did not read this last message, so, as I saw you were using 2F9, I thought this could be fine, so I used it and it seems to be working fine, now I can change booktype, I have been able to create DVD videos compatible with my very delicate hifi/dvd system, and I have DL compatibility, but I have not anything to record in a DL, so I have not test this, I hope it works.

Anyway, I have what I wanted with this firmware, X8, Booktype and Dl, thank you very much to you, my friend.

Best regards.
