I tried it out using 2 different binaries. First, I used the binary tested on this forum from Dangerous Brothers website. My Nero Info Tool window showed the same results as posted on this form except for the modes. Then, I tried 107v2b5d bin file from herrie and it showed the same results except that my computer now recognized my NEC drive as 2500a with 1.07 firmware rather than 2510a firmware??

If anyone knows if there are other differences, ie one can handle media that the other can't, please let me know.

The 1.07v2b5b has been released from Herrie and contains many media tweaks, many 4X -R burned at 8X, etc...

Hi guys,

I just went to herries page and found out it's offline due to some stupid kids, and therefor I can't check for new upgrades...
I currently have 2k5107v2b5dl on my external usb2.0 2500A drive and already found out two minor bugs:
- the led is still a problem - wont work properly,
- when I try to record my "great" Princo dvd's (1-4x) at 8x, although it allows it in the end it is actually recording at 4x (14min or so). At 6x it is fine though.
Do you know if the new frimware corrects any of these? (I've been away from this forum for a while and couln't find any comment from my small search...)

P.S.- I know Princo sucks, but at the price I get them, it's hard to say no... (0,38 Euros - each)

Hey Caccum,
Are you using an external usb case for your 2500 drive? Is it possible to flash the drive this way (through the usb connection)?

After many times of unmouting and re-mounting my unit I found out that YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!
You can use one flash utility I got at http://www.micheldeboer.nl/firmware/ named NecWinFlash... It suited me...

By the way, check the latest frimware mod by Quikiee2 2f8 beta2 at: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=115170&page=4&pp=25

It solves somes issues and uses Herries techniques...

Hello all. I have been working with the version 1.07beta5 for a long time and I am quite happy with its performance, reliability and compatibility with my DVD standalone player, so I would like to know what would be the benefits of upgrading to this new quickiie2 version.

Is it worthy for me to use quickiie2 one, or else should I just keep the current one?. Of course, I still have not test DL compatibility, but Nero says it is DL compatible now.

Another question, I have been reading some of the posts in this forum and in the cdfreaks forum, and everybody talks about something called bitsetting. What is it for?.

Bitsetting is being used at the +R/+RW and +R DL media to make those discs recognized as DVD-ROM instead of +R/+RW, that eventually increases compatibility with desktop DVD players

Well, After having the firmware updated without testing the DL capabilities, I have tried it with 2 diferent DVD DL and I have the same error with both of them in Nero, It does not seem to even start the recording, though the disc is recognized as a DL DVD, and everythnig seems to be OK.

I do not have the message right here, I will post it to you as soon as I can. Has anybody successfully tried to record a DVD DL with the 2500 updated?.

Well, I do not think it is the last one, because these nero people are releasing new versions everyday. Mine I think is 6.5 somehing, but I am not sure. Anyway, the CDinfo and everything says the DVD is DL, and that the writer supports DL. Yesterday I forgot to get the message that I have, I will take today if I remember it, and post it to you to see if it can help you find out what could be the reason of the problem....

I do not know, maybe it is time to get a DL writer, they are not very expensive, but I do not feel like openning the Pc again, grrr...

Tomorrow, I will try to take the error message and the exact version of my ner.

So here is the info about my problem. The nero version is 6.6.0.1
The error message I get just before the program starts to record in the disc:
illegal disc
could not perform end of Disc-at-once

I am trying to record a disc in UDF format, as the compilation has a file larger than 2 Gb, so nero tells me Ia have to use this format instead of ISO.

I get the same error using a DVD DL traxdata and a Philips.
