There are a couple of ways to accomplish this. Yamaha does however suggest that you change to PIO mode, then reboot, and flash the drive, then switch back to DMA and reboot again. You can also boot windows in safe mode and flash the drive, it accomplishes the same thing. There are some good changes in 1.0d firmware, write speeds of 24X and 32X have been enabled (with OWSC off - as suggested by Yamaha for those speeds) and alot of new media's have been added to the 1.0d firmware. It is safe to flash to this firmware.
