Does anyone know of CD burners 'wearing out' after burning xxx number of cd's?

I've been asked to make 40 copies of a reheasal cd - should i be worried that this will decrease the life of my burner?

I have a new liteon 32x12x40.

Depends how you use it, if you burn a disc or two a day, then the burner could possibly last more than a year provided that its surrounding environment has low humidity.

I had purchased a Delta ide writer almost 3 years ago and it still works fine, even after writing 2 cds a day, that comes yo more than 500 definetly.

However i had purched a samsung cd writer and it didnt even last for 6 months.

I guess old is gold[:))]

Well my 2-year-old TEAC CD-W54E (4/4/32) CD-RW still works and it's been flogged

I can't recall a single coaster, EVER! Top quality.

I am sure that anything that has moving parts, or electronics has a life span. It will wear out at some point, but 40 CDs should not make a big diff. The price of burners is so low it should not bother you, and I doubt very much that you will notice any shorten life span of your drive. So I would not worry about it and go ahead and burn those discs........

Well I wrote about 200 CD's in about 3-4 days with my Teac 24x and had no problem whatsoever . Anyway, I have a 2 year warranty on the drive and although I wrote about 1000 CD's with it I don't really care if it's gonna broke.

Envonmental cleanliness is probably one of the MOST important things - NO SMOKING !

The less dust and other contaminants you allow into the drive each time it opens, the longer it will last.

Another argument - will it wear out before it becomes obsolete - that really depends on how long before DVD-?? settles the riciculous standards war and breaks whatever price point is crucial - because there cannot be much more speed in CD-R technology, other than maybe bringing RW speeds toward the same as CD-R, as the current limits are detimed by how fast you can spin the CD-R, not by how good the laser or electronics are.

No to add to the fire, however, I smoke like a TRAIN and I have burned over 1,000 with my current Yamaha 3200 drive, no problems yet and it's still singing.

The way I see it, all those second hand smokers owe me a 1/2 pack of smokes...LOL.... Just kidding, I quit 5 years ago. I will say that I noticed that smoking near the computer sure made it dirty. I imagine that it did cause wear on it, and other components...
