Hehe i tried forceaspi, adaptec, and your nice fix....
Stupid flashy prog still won't budge....

Oh hell computers haven't been an exact science since ages anywayz...
Guess i'll just install win 98 to flash my 3610. :P

That is, unless there is some genius here that knows of a better solution.
Now to get some sleep, working with aspi made my head hurt [V]

Robdfa, my "better solution" was to trash the Philips 804 and start over. [:(!] I found a Hi-Val 30x10x40x at Circuit City (can we mention stores here?) for only $15 (with rebates) so grabbed it. This time if I have problems, I can afford to trash it right away instead of wasting time trying to figure out how to fix it. I wonder why I never heard from L. A. ...he must be on holiday! Nevermind. Cheers

Hi van48
If you would have followed the instructions Fully you would have not got the Message that "No qualified Adaptec products have been detected on this system" the Aspi.bat will install the aspi layer if it wasn't detected by aspichk.exe. If it was detected it will exit this installer and run aspi32.exe all by it's self but you must reboot after it has been done then run aspi check !!!
But as you noticed it is mainly to cure the Firmware upgrade problems with the Writer it is not a Magic Potion even though some people think it is and they think it will cure all there problems with Writers but as an afterthought it has cured a lot of Problems in the past mainly with Windows XP but as I say it will not cure them all !!!

here is my problem

i have been having problems with a PCRW804 CDRW i just bought. I have installed it on many places on the IDE cable as both master and slaves and still no luck. The problem is that, whilst the driver is listed as installed in the System--->device manager box, the CDRW refuses to work properly.
Whenever i insert a disk, it cannot read it, and the 'Disk In' button just keeps flashing until i reboot. Also, i cannot eject the drive. This also happens when i insert no disk. I can only open and shut the drive once, then this happens. Also, sometimes it causesmy system to stop responding.
I have emailed philips about it and they came up with methods that still did not work. I have installed the firmware off the site, and this did absolutley nothing.

do you think the problem can be solved by this file you are offering? i have made a seperate topic on this problem so please respond to it.
thanks

I very much doubt it but it is worth a try as it will not cause any other problems but it may not cure your problem !!!
But it does look like you have a faulty Drive !!!
I hope this Helps !!!

Hi, I am new to this forum. I was directed to here because I am having difficulty upgrading the firmware of my external Philips CDRW. I am running PCRW464K47 on WinXP.

The FlashTool (ver. 3.4.0.5) provided on their official website gives a lot of trouble:

1. It askes for Adaptec ASPI installation but still gives the same warning after the appropriate install.

2. "ASPI send error" as many of you have described.

I just checked the weblink you showed us in the FAQ section and found the fix is no longer online: ftp://62.67.47.73/ASPIFIX.zip

Wondering if you could kindly email it to me or fix the link, or probably both as you please.

Thanks a lot, have a wonderful New Year's day!

Hello,

the solution to all your problems with the flash tool is very easy. Under WinXP you have to run it in compatibility mode and as settings choose: Win98/ME nothing else!!! Now run the flash tool again and it wont crash with "send error". I hope this helps.

I tested with compatibility mode but the Flashtool could not detect my CDRW this time.

BTW, the Philips customer service really sucks!

As I chatted with one of their reps about this, he simply told me he had safely walked others through flashtooling firmware with no problem. He gave no informative clues except not upgrading firmware if not necessary and patching Windows XP with SP1.

Who wants to try it out?

@ best

Just try this:

-remove the files winaspi.dll and wowpost.exe
(they are located at c:\windows\system)
-download aspichk to make sure that the two files are deletet(n/a)
-then install adaptec aspi drivers v4.60
(command line "c:\...\adaptec\install.bat xp32")
-open the file \reg_xp.exe
-download the aspifix for v4.6 and open the .reg file
-restart your computer
-try again the compatibility mode with flash tool

You find most of the files(except the aspifix) on
www.aspi-treiber.de for the aspifix just use google.

this is the only way I could make the flash tool work in my case.
good luck!

I forgot:

- after opening the .eg file from the aspifix for v4.6 use
aspichk again. All 4 files should be v4.60 now and the programm
should tll that everything is alright.

Hope it works

Hey Laffin, You seem to be the resident Expert.

I am having the same problem as hnhsdiver, where the system will try to read a CD in either my MTRP 52x CD-Rom Drive (E-IDE CD-ROM 52X/AKH SCSI CdRom Device) or my Matsh*ta 8x4x32 Burner Drive (MATsh*tA CD-RW CW-7586 SCSI CdRom Device) and return the error:

"Disk is not Formatted"
"Windows cannot read from this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows."

When I tried to fix the problem I started by uninstalling both drives.
I then received the error:

"Device Installer Error"
"Setup cannot load the installer CdRom. Contact your hardware vendor for assistance."

I seemed to have fixed the "Device Installer Error" by restoring my original autoexec.nt file to the System32 folder. Then continued to remove the IDE controller and all devices attached. (Harddrives, too)

If you noticed the SCSI part of the Device Manager listing, that is because my MB has onboard Promise ATA100 controller. I have the same MB as hnhsdiver (oddly enough). A7V KT133, Thunderbird 750 (running at 756Mhz set on the MB as per SandraPro 2003) WinXPPro 2600.

I only have Alex Feinman's ISO Burner Power Toy installed.
I do not have Nero installed.
I do not have InCD installed.
I do not have Roxio/Adaptec or any other burner software installed.

I have been using the same hardware/software configuration as always.
The only thing that has changed is the Bios. I upgraded from v1009 to v1011 about a month ago and this problem has only been happening for about 3 days.

PLEASE HELP!!!
