I just flashed my 40125W using the VS04 firmware, and it seems to work great. I do have to turn off smart burn to burn at 48x, and I just did a test burn in clonecd at 48x. Seemed to work great, burnt the full cd in 2mins and 15secs.

I just did a CD quality check on the disc using Nero CD speed, and it reports 16523 errors (0.002%), which seem to occur right towards the end of the disc. This is probably due to the fact that the fastest media I have here ATM is Princo 24x.

I'm going to try another test now using nero burning an audio cd, so I'll post results on that soon. Hopefully I can get my hands on some better quality media, so I can see if it is in fact the media that is causing the errors. Hope this helps.

BTW, CDFreaks forums had tons of information on flashing etc, big thanks to them for all the help.

EDIT: Sorry, I did forget to mention this was done on an 80min CD.

Just tried to burn a full cd of audio at 48x with nero on a 80min Princo 24x CD an it failed at the 59% mark. I'm guessing this has more to do with the media, but I'm not sure as of yet. Smart-Burn does seem like a handy feature, as the last thing you want is errors on a cd because you have tried to do it too fast.

That's my first coaster, I'll see if I can find some faster media somewhere in Aus and try it out again :)

LiteOn 32125W here. Have flashed it with VS04 firmware. At first everything seemed OK. WinME and Nero 5.5.8.2 worked flawlessly, burned 2 CDs at 48x (80min) took 2:20 to finish. Great results... Now I have moved the drive to an WinXP Pro platform... used a low-cost cd-r and burned an 80min cd, but the drive stopped at 100% and the light kept flashing. I had to restart the damn thing and now the burned cd works, but the burner is not able to recognize any cd-r or cd-rw media inserted. Shall I flash it back to 40x? Or is there anything else I can try?

We are also trying all burns under WinXP Pro. Maybe LiteOn OC has some problems with WinXP since several other people reported burning stop at 59%

I think that it a combination of Nero 5.5.8.2 and some non intel systems. Nero 5.5.8.2 works fine with my pentium 4 but not with Lite-on 48x burners, plex 40x burners and my AMD/ VIA chipset. Others have reported similar problems. Hopefully Ahead is working on a fix.

That is interesting. I made all burns in an AMD system...I will re-try the LiteOn 48x OC with a P4 system

Well, I did find a few other problems as well. Even tho smart-burn was disabled, and nero said it was burning at 48x, it burnt the cd a tad slower than what it did at 40x. The reason for this was it got towards the end of the CD, and it was almost like buffer underrun kicked in, but the buffer was full. I get the feeling that the media cannot handle it, and the drive is slowing down anyway.

For the moment, I have flashed back to the orignal software, as I don't have very high speed media, and the highest I can burn at reliably is 40x, which is my burner's max speed. Be interesting to see if later firmware improves performance, or if nero do soon release a new version for the 48x burner.

Has anyone reflashed using the newest firmware out for the 48X today? I want to flash my 40X but only after I have reports of someone using the newest firmware. HA HA I will try it but just wanted the up-to-the-minute scoop.

Is it also possible to OC the LTR-40125S Model to 48x or is it only possible with the LTR-40125W one ?

If I understand it correctly, the only difference between the S and the W model is, that the W one directly supports P-CAV writing and MR Rainier Format, only the Firmware is different. The hardware is exactly the same. Is it right ?
