READ THIS to make your Liteon LTD163 RPC1 at www.cdspeed2000.com.go.php3?link=details.php3&type=DVD&Brand=LiteOn&model=LTD163.

This is an good DVD drive. My firmware is GH4F. I placed the drive in secundairy IDE (SLAVE) ** My drive is region free !!! ** HOW did i do that (note: It works for me !!!): I used the RPC-1 utility from the Liteon LTD-122 on the Firmwarepage ( http://perso.club-internet.fr/farzeno/firmware/ ). I put the utility in the autoexec.bat file and now my drive is regionfree. I tried this because i had some problems with the normal region installation. It now works for about 2 weeks for me. Try did on your own risk. Read the .txt file very well. sincerly, Bob Pragt The Netherlands.

My question is: if it works, does it works for Windows ME too?

You don't have to answer me. I thought: "don't be a chicken" and I have tried it myself and it works. My Liteon LTD 163 is regionfree now!!

Hi Nico, this is really exciting.

I don't have a need for a region free but I'm gonna do it for the good feeling

Just like to ask what firmware you have, mine is the last, the GH4S and since I'm still considering bringing it back to 4N, I want to know first if the fix will work on any of them. If it does it's even better than a patched firmware.

Hi Digi,

You're right. It is better than a patched firmware because this patch you can use after every firmware upgrade. The other guy had firmware GH4F and I have firmware GH4S.
Why do you consider to bring it back to GH4N?
What I know from people of Liteon you can't downgrade the firmware of the Liteons.

YES YES YES,
thanks again Nico and I wish I knew who to thank for making this utility, but thank you very much who ever you are!

The GH4S is good except that the drive is slower to start spinning up when ripping audio. It doesn't realy matter to me now as it will easily keep up with my burner, but the previous firmware looked better on the CDSPEED tests... I guess I leave it, especially after what you say about downgrading.

I don't think we have competition in the usual terms. Our reviews are always ahead the so called "competition" and i think the "writing quality tests" bring a new dimension in the CD-RW drive reviews. We all want to know which burner writes better CDs than the rest. Don't you agree?

Also as you understand we cannot test every recorder that is outside. Some companies is Europe are not so friendly as in USA so someone must test them. I guess we all are looking for the same thing here, just must keep our nose down to the ground

You can't flash directly from GV3R to GH4S.
You will have to flash to GH4F first, which you can download here:
http://www.liteonit.com.tw/dvddrv/D163GH4F.zip

The RPC1 utility works on that one but if you want you can flash now to the GH4S, which you can download here:
http://www.liteonit.com.tw/dvddrv/D163GH4S.zip

Funny enough, it doesn't work with GH4N.
