I have a liteOn 24x10x40 and want to update the firmware to the latest. What i'm wondering is it safe to update this under XP. I know the file is supposed to be used under windows, but i just want to make sure. Updateing firmware, bios and such have always been a pure dos thing for me.

LiteOn's cdrw firmware upgrade is a Windows utility so you sould be fine in XP, safer that in WinMe orW9x, in any case. I would do it after a fresh reboot though.

Their dvdrom f/w upgrade has to be done in real DOS mode. With WinXP you will have to make a DOS start-up diskette, which is available as an option under the diskette format utility.

Hi thanks for the help. I did the flash, but I diden't do it in safe mode, but I had dma disabled. It went fine, but I'am a bit disapointet since it now reads safedisk 2 cd slover than before. (fast error skip in clone cd). I emailed liteOn and got a flashback utility. Haven't used it yet but will do so later.

Hi Iznogood,

I can't comment on SD2 performance because I never tried any...
But say mate, I'm very interested in this flash-back utility, I'd like to put it on my tiny LTD-163 Site.

I'd be very grateful to you if you mail it to me to:
nandre@cheerful.com

If you like to see the site, it's on:

Cheers!
