Just wondering what is DMA and what is it used for?
Why do I need to activated...or not?
Is it any good?

DMA=Direct Memory Access

This is a dumb question, but how do you enable it in Win XP? I'm pretty sure I saw the DMA option in drive properties (in the device manager) when I was running Win ME, but when I looked for any options in drive properties with XP there are none there, like auto-insert notification etc. Is the option located somewhere other than the device manager?

it's in device manager but it's a property of the ide controllers instead of the drives. try the advanced tab.

I have not been able to find the settings...I go into the ide drive controller and see no advanced tab...can someone please help me....

If you are using Windows XP then this is what you are looking for. Bring up your Control Panel, then click "Systems", then Device Manager. You look for "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" Double click that. Now you should see "Primary IDE Channel" and "Secondary Channel", Right click "Primary IDE Channel" and click "Properties". Now click on "Advanced Settings". Now make sure that "Transfer Mode" is set to "DMA if Available". Now go to "Secondary Channel" and do this again. All done...
