YES !
I could not read any CD or DVD !
I don't understand because it appears in materials list with the good name and with a sign that this material has a pb.
and the installation assistant tells me it's an error whith the keys in registry but don't tell me which ones !
So I think that if i could find the driver and re-install it it could be the solution.
But i'm not abble for the moment to find the driver.
Toshiba tells it doesn't need one because all systems recognize it nativelly. But as my pc is a notebook i'don't have any CD with drivers. I only have 3 CD to re-initialize all th pc !!
Do you see any solution different from that one !

thanks !

You may perhaps have to reload windows if this is the problem, as there are no XP drivers for CDROM/CDRW or DVDRom/DVDRW Drives, they are built into WinXP.

Perhaps you have some packet writing software such as InCD or DLA Loaded?

yes but i've installed so many things that i'd prefer to find a solution where i don't have to reload all those things.
How i can i find these InCd or else ? is there a special name ?
in Windows/system32 rep ?
in i386 rep ?

what are the extensions i've to surch ?

i'm sorry of being so tedious but it's not easy to work whitout this drive even to see my DVD ...

Incd is a software that comes with Nero
You can check if it is running on your pc by checking the running processes on the task manager for incd.exe and incdsrv.exe

I know now where is the problem : it's in the registry.
I've the message that windows cannot run the device because the keys in registry have been modified or damaged.
So do you think it's possible to find someone (or somwhere) who could tell me the good values of the keys corresponding to this device ?
Or is there another solution ?
It's the last time i install something whitout saving the registry before, you can trust me !

I suggest a clean install of Windows.

Why don't you try first to use a registry fix-clean tool
I don't trust them as much since they warn you to delete some entries that windows actually need but it could be a solution to your problem if it has something to do with the registry.
Please use these tools at your own risk.

Hy, it's done ! i've contacted Hp support and the solution they told me repaired my device.
Here is this solution :
in fact there were two ones :

*first : To resolve the problem, I recommend you reset
system BIOS and reinstall combo drive from Device Manager.

Steps to reset system BIOS:

1. Restart the computer.
2. Press F2 key after you find Blue HP logo during Startup.
3. Access the BIOS menu (Main or Exit) and select the option "Get
Default

Values".
4. Save the settings and Exit to load Windows.

The BIOS of the computer will be set to default.

Steps to reinstall Combo drive from Device Manager:

1. Click Start and then Control Panel.
2. Double-click System.
3. Click Hardware tab.
4. Click Device Manager button.
5. Click "+" sign for "CD-ROM/DVD".
6. Right-click the listed information and select "Uninstall".
7. Click Ok to remove.
8. Restart the system. It will restore a fresh copy of device drivers.

*second : this one was to download a separate utility which will automatically remove the required entry from windows registry :
here's the link to download it :
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts/xp_cd_dvd_fix.vbs
But this tool don't repaired my device.
So i decided to delete the correponding keys as indicated in this tool :
Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")

WshShell.RegDelete "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\UpperFilters"
WshShell.RegDelete "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\LowerFilters"
WshShell.RegDelete "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdr4_2K\"
WshShell.RegDelete "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdralw2k\"
WshShell.RegDelete "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdudf\"
WshShell.RegDelete "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UdfReadr\"
Set WshShell = Nothing
And this time it works !!!!!!!
I just had to restart my system to see my device in widows explorer.

So i thank you all for your useful help.
I've been to system tools to clean registry but none is free.
Again i would like to thank you all.

P.S : The site described for the utility contains a lot of tools for winXP and other system.
