Hi, I just purchased a new Plextor dl dvd burner (PX-740a)..downloaded the new firmware, but it is burning super slow, roughly an hour and a half. It recoginzes (nero) the speedsofthe burner, but picking 8x or 16x makes no differnce on the burning speed.

Any Ideas?

For help, i have Windows XP sp2, and ASUS P4C800-E motherboard, a gig of ram ect....

Please help, I have to burn quite a few dvds a day, and an hour and half basically destroys my day.

Thank you

What media did you use?  Is DMA enabled?  Is you hard drive defragged?

Hey...I have used various media, from sony to memorex (the usual one) and verbatim....all say they are capable of burning up to 16x, though I usually set it to burn at 8x. I have not defrag my computer recently, so I will try that tonight. I originally had bought a Liteon DL burner which was burning just as slow, though it would give me coasters...the Plextor is slow, but atleast finishes the burn (just if this helps figuring out the problem)

Thanks alot!

something is wrong with your system, are you sure DMA is enabled?

I am fairly certain...but if you tell me who to check, I can....I read somewhere it could be cause my bios are not fully up to date, but also was warned that updating them could be fairly dangerous for the system if something went wrong
