My nec 3520a has started to fail burning iso files at about 51.2% about half the time. I have no ideas what is wrong, and I haven't changed any settings on the drive. when I look at the media it appears as if there is a little cone shaped area at the edge of the disk which hasn't gotten burned, and is at almost the same place on every disk.

It just happened within the last few days, I've burned 100 discs of this media fine, and now 4 bad burns out of 8. strange I just installed norton antivirus 2006, i don't know if this could be the problem

I just did another burn, and I realized that both nero and alcohol 120% are reporting no seek complete errors. no idea what this means.

well I burned two copies on my nec 3540a on my other computer, with the same media, of the same iso file. and one copy was fine and the other copy had the same problem.  I've had this happen on several different iso files.  Also this is a new 100 pack of the media.  I've used the same media before without problem.  its TDK printable 8x dvd-r.

yea, I agree, try with a Verbatim for example.

my nec 3520a fails at 16% on different media brands (LG, Verbatim, Memorex) 5 -6 times of 10, can't burn audio cds at all, and also burns dvd-rs/dvd+rs VERY slow, nero says 8x, but it looks like 1x... small cdwriter says 6x... and 86 minutes remaining! it all began a few days ago, what to do?! should i update firmware and which is the best for my case?
