Hi,

I have bought Liteon LDW-411S DVD writer recently and had to replace my packet writing software, since InCD 3.5.24 I used before did not accepted this drive. So, I installed InCD 4.1.0.0 as update both under Windows98SE and Windows 2000 (both running on the same PC, which has Athlon1700+ CPU on Gigabyte 7VAX MB (VIA KT400 chipset)).
Under Win2000 it started well and all the functions are available, but under Win98SE it starts, but InCD icon do not appear on taskbar and right click on CD/DVD drive does not have "Format with InCD" and "InCD erase" items. At the same time InCD is in tasklist and it is possible to read packet format CD-s and DVD-s and even write to them.
When shutting down Windows, it is always claiming that application "InCD_GUI_Mainframe" is not responding and I have to close it manually. Removing of InCD and installing it again did not change anything.
There are no conflicting SW, like CloneCD or Alcohol on my PC, so it seems to be Windows problem.

BTW, there are some strange messages in error log, which InCD produces - first, it do not find error description text (it seems to be in file "incd1252.txt" which is there in InCD directory) and reports just number, and second, it reports some SCSI errors, which might be drive reladed, but just under Windows98 (error log under Win2000 is empty).

Any ideas, how to fix it?

The mode sense failures (mode pages 03h and 2Ch) are just absence of MRW capability of the device, this is not a (the) problem. And the (Sns:2, Asc:x3a, Asq:x0 ) error means "MEDIUM NOT PRESENT" so this is also not the problem.

The format dialog and taskbar icon are part of the GUI of InCD, which process is InCD.exe. Apparently this process is hanging on your 98se, thus you cannot open the format dialog neither see the taskbar icon.

As you are able to write packet formatted media, it is clear that the filesystem from InCD is running. So only the GUI has a problem.

Maybe you can provide an infotool.txt (removing the Nero serial from it) so we learn more about your configuration?

Should I post it here? It is quite long (about 12kb).

(From your e-mail attachement:)

"Description : FarStone VirtualDrive
Type : CD-Rom Drive"

Can you detail what is this virtual CD-Rom drive?

It is virtual CD-ROM drive from FarStone company:
http://www.farstone.com/home/en/shtml/vdpoverview.shtml

It has the same functionality as Nero Image Drive. I am using it for few years - it came as bonuspack with my PC motherboard. It has no any problems with the previous version on InCD (3.5.24), so I have not removed it. Do you suspect this as a problem with InCD 4.XX?
Virtual Drive version I am using now is 6.01.

Well, I did some experiments during holidays - I tried to install InCD when Virtual CD has been removed, I tried also to remove MSI.DLL, what is mentioned in InCD FAQ, I have removed RAID monitoring utility - all that did not fix the problem. There is something else in my Windows 98SE avoiding InCD GUI to work.

Any ideas what else should I try?

(Well, I do not see an obvious solution.) The log lines you gave here, are them from error.log or from \windows\InCD\incderr.log?

Lines are from \windows\InCd\incderr.log.

May be there something is wrong with codepages, since InCD does not find error text file "incd1252.txt", which seems pointing to codepage 1252. May be my Windows environment reports different codepage to InCD and this is causing some problems?
(Do not blame me if my guess is too silly).

I won't blame you Screw, no problem.

After checking with another engineer, the error lookup bug has been fixed in 4.1.5.1, thus the fix is included in the new web update 4.1.5.7. (No, the bug was not related to a Windows environnement codepage problem.)

Can you test this and confirm it is working for you? (Erasing the old log files to start from clean state.)

Well, I did 4.1.5.7 installation and yes, text interpretation thing in error log file is fixed, but GUI anyway is not working in my Win98SE environment. I was thinking about clean Windows 98SE install, but since everything else is working fine, I shall postpone with that. For this moment I shall use InCD 4.xx just on Win2000.

Thank you for assistance.
