I have an NEC 2510A that's being used in an external, USB 2.0-connected box with my laptop. The version of the firmware is 2.15. I found an upgrade to version 2.18, but it appears that in order to install it, the drive must be installed internally, something I obviously cannot do with a laptop.

Is there a way to install this firmware upgrade with an external drive?

A side note: the reason I'm trying this is because my first attempt at burning to a DL disk failed. (Disk: Memorex DVD+R DL 2.4x.) The disks burn fine to a Sony external DL drive, but not to the NEC (using Nero.)

You can see if Liggy's BinFlash will recognize the drive. If it sees it, it should be able to upgrade the NEC firmware (.bin or .exe formats).
