Hi All,

I wonder if anyone can help me. I am running Windows 2000 on a Compaq EN Pro.  Cyber Drive CWO99D CD-R/RW  - (speed 52 x 24 x 52).
Everytime I go play music on a CD it sounds fast like Micky Mouse and Donald Duck. I have tried both Digital and Audio Palyback in the Options/Device menu and that does not make any difference.
Thanks.

No good,    I downloaded and installed the correct driver, which it already had, but did not make any difference.
Any more ideas ?

I've had my PC for over a year and it played CDs perfectly.  Last week I was trying to install some some Sony MD software.  Now my CD's play like the "chipmonks" so it must be some thing added/replaced by these applications.  So I went to the AC'98 realtek site and downloaded stuff from there but to no success.  EVERY application that plays CDs plays them like the chipmonks - and these are regular, out of the shop, kosher CDs.

As we're now legion, there needs to be an investigation into this.

Abslutely Emperor!
The problem is that I have un-installed them to try and rectify the problem (without success).
There was the Sony Sonic Stage, OpenMG_Jukebox_NetMD_Drivers.zipand the Sony Connect software. And I've found lame3.98a2.zip which I can't remember.
I'm sure that one of these has done something - but what ? And how can it be fixed ?
In hopeful anticipation, I continue to listen as a :

EXTROARDINARY - I have JUST been using my SKYPE headset (through a USB port) and the music plays normally - no chipmonks - but when i use the speakers, the chipmonks are there.

That wasn't a resolution to the problem.  HOWEVER - I uninstalled the REALTEK device using the following HP instructions.  I got as far as no 8 and shutdown the PC.  When I re-started it, IT WAS CURED ! NO MORE CHIPMONKS !
  1. In the Microsoft Windows XP operating system, you must be logged on as an administrator to install or uninstall a device driver.
  2. Click Start on the taskbar.
  3. Right-click My Computer.
  4. Click Properties, and then select the Hardware tab.
  5. Click the Device Manager button to display a list of hardware device categories.
  6. Click the + (plus) next to the category of the problem device to show all installed devices.
  7. Right-click the device to be uninstalled.
  8. Click Uninstall, and then click OK. Repeat, if needed, to remove all listings of the device.
  9. A message appears telling you to restart the computer. Click Yes. If this message does not appear, click Start, select Turn Off Computer, and then click Restart. You may need to restart the PC twice. If the driver file is not corrupted, the information is restored correctly, and the device should work.
  10. After your PC restarts, open Device Manager to see that the device is listed. If it is not, you may need to reinstall it manually with the Add New Hardware Wizard in the System Properties window.
