Hi everyone,

Thanks for having me aboard. I was unwise enough to buy a Philips PBDV1640G from on online retailer which comes with no software at all. All I can find on the net are firmware upgrades. Does anyone know where I can find a full installation for this product? Philips have been no help.

Thanks,

Paul.

What firmware you have?

I think B3.6 is the latest, from CDRinfo's firmware download section.

It's for

PBDV1640B/00
PBDV1640G/00
PBDV1640B/35
PBDV1640G/35

Below is the link:

Antonio,

Thanks, but that's my point - I don't have any firmware!
All the downloads in the download section related to the PBDV1640G are upgrades of the basic software. I need to reach square one before I can upgrade.

Sorry if I'm confusing everyone with my incorrect use of terms. Yes, it looks like its the software I need. My computer won't even detect the drive. I've just taken Antonio's advice and ordered Nero. Hope that cures the problem, I'll let you know

No problem, my english is also poor.

In Device Manager your drive must be listed. But without software you can only read discs, not write.

Maybe things are worse than I thought. Device Manager can't 'see' the drive at all. I've also downloaded the Nero Infotool from the Nero website and that can't pick up any info about the CD/DVD drive either......so I can't even read discs.

Maybe this helps,

unistall the ide, from device manager, channel you have the drive on and restart. The system will re-identify any possible hardware changes.

Better get an 80pin cable and make sure configuration is the correct, slve/master etc.

Progress!..........I gave up trying to replace my existing  drive with the 1640 and installed it as a slave instead. Computer now recognises it as PBDV1640P. I 've upgraded to the latest 3.6 firmware as you and Minos suggested and have managed to burn a DVD using Sonic RecordNow (still waiting on Nero...).

Thanks for all the help.
