The first pic on site 8 is broken ;)

BTW, why you tested so less media in the quality-test?

You really think testing 5 different medias is too little?  It appears that the medias tested are readily available, perhaps this would benefit most users, since I know that every media tested is available, well, at least where I live.

Seems LiteOn has improved the quality "somewhat" on the DVD side, but blown the CDR writing quality, same as they did on their last released drive.

Still would not be a drive that I would purchase for myself, a client, or even a friend.

5 media are less than in other reviews here, that´s why I asked.

The 1693 seems not be be much better than the 1673

I don't think LiteOn cares about quality any more, that's pretty obvious isn't it?  All they care about is $$$.

I´m thinking that Liteon sells less than ever. At cdfreaks were the biggest Lite-fanatics and now, they buy Benq or NEC

5 CD media might sound few in comparison to the DVD media we burn with every DVD burner. However we think they are quite enough for checking the CD writing quality on a DVD burner.

Thanks for the link, now is ok.

Oops, I meant the DVD-quality-tests. In many reviews there are 5-6 pages, in this only 3 pages

Minos, while I appreciate the offer (others may as well) after all testing is said and done, it's still just a "LiteOn"

If you think there will be time for this then some people would like to see the 8X writing performance. In my opinion however there will be no great difference and I agree with MP3Mogul.

OK, I see.

We decided to burn only at 16X this time due to lack of time. It is highly possible to update the article with 8X burns. Do you think this would help?

No, don´t waste to much media and energy on the 1693. I think it´s just the same as with the 1673.

Waste your energy with the newer drives like NEC 3540, Toshiba 5372V, ...   ;)

As far as I know this new chipset is capable of 16X on all media, even the DL. Very much interesting but I don't think it will be used on the 3540. Check this out:

In the land of Australia (superclose to Asia...might as well be) LiteOn are now not a very well respected company. The consumer...and certainly those that recommend products to the consumer, have lost faith in the company. It was witnessed that the 1673S has been ripped from the shelves in many states, as there had been FAR too many failed drives...with FAR too many bad reports from consumers.

Australia's most popular hardware is now (in this order):

  1. Pioneer
  2. BenQ
  3. NEC
  4. LiteOn
Things do not look so good for LiteOn.
