This is my first time using InCD. I can't format any CD-RW. The error message i got is

"Error writing the disc in X:\. Please confirm that the disc is compatible with the drive and is not scratched or damaged"

The CD is Imation 4-10x
The Drive is Samsung SN-324B DVD/CD-RW combo
OS is Win XP w/SP1 and all update installed

Anybody knows for sure why this happens?
I tried using Memorex 1-4x disc and still have the problem. I've used Drag-to-Disc before without any problem. I reformatted my computer last week and decided to try InCD for a change. If nobody knows how to solve this problem then I'm going back to Drag-to-Disc.

You might have to disable the built-in WinXP Roxio packet writing service.
(Please go to the services section and disable it. Right click "my computer" --> Manage -- > Services)

Please provide the log files generated by InCD (see the FAQ in the installation folder to learn where these lgo files are located). The log files will contain detailed information about the format failure that will help us to help you with this problem.

Ok, I wanted to test this to try to understand why the device is rejecting the write parameters page but unfortunately I see we don't have this device in our labs. I will try to see if it is possible to get an engineering sample from Samsung. Sorry in advance for the delay it will cause! :-(

it's okay... thank you for the attention... this is a laptop drive so maybe it's a bit difficult for you to find it around...

it's a bit puzzling since i can burn stuff using nero just fine... Data disk... Audio disk... using both cd-r and cd-rw...

You know... you have to APPRECIATE the decication to the software that AHEAD puts in their work.... No this is not an Advertisement, but you will find NO OTHER dedication in software development, nor software maturity, than you do with them.... it's great to see Ahead on the Ball.... of course they ALWAYS have been......... I've gotten that message many a times on my crappy Philips CD Burner (too lazy to buy a new one), but i've found that if you have used the disc before first try cleaning up a little, then do an incd erase then a full format of the cd (not a quick format) and it might work.

Thank doggeral for this tip. Although for the problem from l0g0ut on Samsung SN-324B DVD/CD-RW combo this might not help as the root cause seems to be an incompatibility of InCD 4 with the device (that I'm working on fixing) not a problem of the laser LED with the media surface.

I wouldnt have said anything except I originally thought my error log was identical, which it is except my error log doesn't have the following line

quote:
The device rejected read/write recovery parameters.

I just noticed that after looking back here and I also don't get the 2995 and 2983 errors, but i get a 2990. A lot of differences, but thats what happens when you read at 3am.

L0g0ut, although the SN-324B sample have not yet arrived I have been working on older SN-308 which seems to present the same problem. I was successful in writing a generic workaround. On SN-308 it is working fine now, I will confirm for SN-324B once I get it.

Ok, I received the SN-324B sample and confirm the fix works also for this device. End-of-the-month web update of InCD 4 shoud include this fix.

dburg...I am also impressed with your level of responsiveness. I am also happy to find this post - as this problem has been driving me NUTS!!! I also have the samsung sn324b DVD/CD-RW combo - in a dell laptop.

I look forward to your fix being released at the end of this month.
