Your Writer will have to be on the MAIN IDE channels.

i can't do that coz my mb won't recognize its , my bios is too old , but trust me the ide adapter is better then the main ide chanel and its working great with win98!

DMA must be enabled, not in PIO. Logical this can be set from bios.
