I want to update my LG GSA-4163B firmware, but I don't know if I must do it one by one (A102, A103, A104).

Is it important to update all the firmwares or only the last one?

How do the firmwares work?

Thanks!!!

I am pretty sure that a transaction A102 -> A104 should be successful. Why not?
OK. To be absolutely sure I will try this today or tomorrow.
A result will be reported.

You can go straight to the latest revision. I just did it on a friend's 4163.

It is possible with no doubts.

But, Iggy, I would not declare such experience. It is a reprehensible behavior.

Hello everybody!

I did it one by one but I forgot to download the A101 firmware so I skipped it.

Thank you.

Hi,

I am planning to purchase this drive.. would it work on an old Compaq deskpro EN.. umm pentium III 886?

Also.. for the firmware upgrade.. it mentions:

1. Connect the drive as ¡°master¡± by it self, on the secondary IDE controller with
no other device on the same IDE cable, making note to set the jumper on
the back of the drive to the ¡°master¡± position.

I am hardware illiterate.. what does this mean? I am planning to buy an internal drive.. am I going to be perplexed by this, is installation going to be nightmare?

Thanks

-Sam

What is "reprehensible behaviour"? Unless the firmware specifically states that it can only be updated from a specific version then there is NO PROBLEM going direct to the latest firmware. DOWNGRADING is a different matter
A firmware upgrade will replace the previous version and include all the enhancements that have been added or removed in all earlier firmware revisions.

Hello!!installing your dvd drive is not that difficult!!i did it myself with no exceptional knowledge,i must say.Since your system's hard drive is connected to the primary channel as MASTER(so the system can boot from there) leaves you with only one choice:you just set you dvd drive as a SLAVE and connect it to the primary channel. If you are planning to connect it to the secondary channel, the mode you will set depends on the rest of your system. If you have no other drive on the secondary channel, you can set it as MASTER and have no problem.IF you already have a device that is set as MASTER-you set your dvd drive as SLAVE and give it a try!IF that does not work, you reverse the connected devices:set your new drive as MASTER and the old one as SLAVE.Either way,it is going to work-YOU SHOULD NOT set two devices in the same channel as MASTER or SLAVE,as this may destroy the devices.IN the end, windows will detect the devices and install the drivers. You need nothing more!just a reboot!

Yeap, correct. Set the drive on the channel that you don't have the HD, meaning the Seoncdary IDE channel, and at the end of the cable, not on the middle. At the back of the drive there is a spot with several pins. There make sure you have the jumber on the Master position, the small white plastic on the left of the IDE. Check below:
