I just got a KHCRW482448 from Officemax.
Firmware: D.LC
Made in China

I tried the 4824P firmware from http://www.benq.com/drivers/storage_drivers.html#cdrom to upgrade the FW to D.UC sucessfully and it supports Mount Rainier! But none of their 5224P or 5224W FW works for me. Can someone send me a BIN file so I upgrade it to 52x using MtkWinFlash?

For those who have the Khypermedia 48x24x48 drives that originally came with firmware C.FZ, I see that Benq's firmware download page now has version F.JZ (at http://www.benq.com/drivers/storage_drivers.html#cdrw_internal
under the Model [url="www.benq.com/ss_download/drivers/storage/internal_cdrw/firmware/5224w/fjz.exe"]5224W[/url] row/link). Has anyone tried it yet?

Looking for assistant from forum. I too purchased the Khpermedia CD rewriter from OM. Followed instructions but system can't find the CD in drive. Called hypermedia and they suggested that might need updates to Windows Me. Tried this but still fails. Any one have problems? Any suggestions? [:0]

Can you tell me how to do this? I have a KHCRW482448 firmware Rev. D.LC. that shows up in Nero Infotool as ATAPI CD-RW 48X24. I downloaded the latest firmware update for the 5224P from:

I tried running the KUC.exe, it opens, I select my target drive and press the upgrade buttom, Whamo! "This Frimware Version can't Flash"
I'm guessing that their firmware(or should I say frimware) upgrade utility is checking for a specific version of firmware before it will actually run. Or maybe I'm just missing something really simple?
I think I read in a previous post that this drive can be flashed using MTKWINFLASH and the KxC.bin file for a 5224P drive. Now if only I had that bin file...
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Have you ty upgading fom D.LC to D.UC and then fom D.UC to K.UC?

I upgraded my oveclocked 5224W fom F.FZ to F.JZ. It works and I have not expeienced any poblems.

I upgraded to D.UC, now have MT Rainier support(Sweet!). Tried flashing from D.UC to K.UC and getting same message"this firmware can't flash". Thanks for the suggestion, any other ideas?

please email me and I will reply with the KRC.bin file and mtkwinflash utility so you can upgrade your drive to a 5224P. Then you will update your drive using the K.UC firmware (or whatever is the lastest) from BenQ's website.

I've obtained a copy of the KRC.bin file and mtkwinflash utility to try to upgrade my D.RC Burner to a 5224P. However, when i run mtkwinflash, I keep getting the message:

Press Browse Load A Bin/Hex File And Flash.
ERR: fail to identify the flash type!
Please wait a moment...
Complete! Please restart your computer.

Afterwards, the burner still has the firmware D.RC. I've also tried upgrading to D.UC then trying to overclock it to K.RC, but the same error comes up. Any ideas?

not sure what is going on...
do you have the mtkwinflash and the KRC.bin file in the same folder?
are you selecting the correct ide port or drive?

I'm good to go with my new 522452 burner w/Mt Rainier support! Firmware K.UC.

Backed up 4824P firmware w/mtkflash, Flashed K.RC bin w/MtkWinFlash, updated to K.UC w/ BenQ KUC.EXE. Haven't tested yet though, will keep you posted.

Yes, mtkwinflash and the KRC.bin file are both in the same folder (Does it matter which folder it is? It is currently in C:\).

Also, yes I am selecting the correct drive. In atapi mode, I have selected 'atapi cd-rw 48x24' and in ide mode, I have selected 'Secondary Master'.

Nevertheless, the error message 'ERR: fail to identify the flash type!' still comes up. Any other ideas/theories?

I am not lucky. The 1st time when I flashed the K.RC bin ( thanks CPtsoopy!! )it showed me Can't flash something and then I got mwf.exe error later everytime when I tried to flash it; this disabled the 4824p as well as my other cd-rom drive. I had to uninstall them from device manager and reboot machine to get them back. In a word, it does not work for me. Any idea?

Phil,

Can you flash your drive with the normal BenQ firmware(i.e D.UC)? Try upgrading firmware W/ newer Benq version before flashing K.RC, this will verify that your drive can be flashed.
If so, I can step you through the method that I used to flash my drive, it seemed to work flawlessly. I have also heard of people having problems flashing with 2 drives connected on the same channel, although I have a Pioneer DVD-ROM set as master and BenQ CDRW as slave on secondary IDE channel and it worked fine. I have seen firmware updates that ask you to make sure you do not have a disk in the drive and that the drive is closed before updating. IMHO if you want to try a safe method for flashing your drive, make sure it is the only one connected to your IDE channel(if secondary), if its on the primary w/ your hard drive then obviously you don't want to disconnect it unless you boot from DOS boot disk and flash from DOS. What utility are you using to flash and how? I used MtkWinFlash 1.5.3.4 in ATAPI mode. Is it possible you have the other 482448 model or is firmware D.XC?, or flash utility is trying to flash wrong drive, could bin file be corrrupted?(doubtful, but you never know, BTW the size of the kRC.bin file I used (from cptsnoopy) was 512 KB.
