Delta901, the firmware can be downloaded from the firmware area of cdrinfo.com. My drive had c.fz firmware, I am able to flash mine and so can you. A word of caution though, don't disturb the process until it is finished or you may ruin the drive. But then, there is always MTKWINFLASH to the rescue if something goes wrong.

How does this Drive compare to the Liteon 48X CDRW? Because I both drives, the liteon 48x and this 4824p, and am wondering which one to keep.

Liteon drives, pound for pound, is a better drive as indicated by the test report on this websites and others. They are inexpensive and they are good. I have Benq (acer) drives before, I am not all that happy about the performance. This Overclocked 5224W seems to work okay so far, hopefully it will stay that way. I can't complain very much, afterall it is free. Not all Liteon 48X burner can be overclocked. I have a 48124W: it is a great drive but not overclockable. I believe the 48126W, 48246K and 48246S are the ones can be done. I will take a Liteon drive anytime!

I just installed my Cendyne 48x (Khypermedia drive from OM hasn't arrived yet :p), it is a 4824p Benq drive, and the Firmware is D.IC. Which firmware should I upgrade this drive to? the 5224W or 5224P and what are the differences between the two? Also is there a fail safe way to flash the firmware on this CDRW so that if I mess up I can undo the flash? I am a real n00b in this, so please be a bit specific. Thanks a lot in advance :D

Hi ri3eboi,

I have been playing around with the 4824P and will send you the binary file to upgrade your drive to a 5224P if you want. Otherwise, you can get the firmware for your drive from www.benq.com. There are some links to the download page earlier in this thread. The 4824P has the mediatek chipset. You can use mtkflash or mtkwinflash to flash this drive. For the guys that got the khypermedia drive that came with the firmware C.CZ, this drive is apparently has the ricoh chipset and cannot be flashed with mtkflash as far as I can figure. Please let me know if I am wrong... I just flashed mine with the F.FZ 5224W firmware and it seems to be working fine. Now I just need to find some decent CD-R media for cheap...lol

I downloaded the firmware files and MTKWINFLASH, but the firmwares from Benq aren't *.bin files, so how do i get bin files? Also should I flash to 5224W or 5224P?

My drive has C.FC firmware, KSC.EXE would not work (probably different chipset). FFC.EXE works however. One of the two will work. I would try FFC first, if it won't work then do it with KSC. Good luck! I still can't believe this, a 52X burner for the cost of sales tax. This helps to ease the pain of spending $350 on a 2X SCSI burner six years ago.

if you want to stay with 4824P then you can upgrade your firmware using the DSC.exe from BenQ's website. You do not need mtkwinflash for the .exe file. If you want to upgrade your drive to the 5224P I can send you the KRC.bin file to use with mtkwinflash. Then after that you can use the KSC.exe to update your firmware to the latest from BenQ's website or whatever the latest firmware is for a 5224P. You do not want to flash the 5224W firmware, it is for the other 52x24x52 drive using the ricoh chipset. hope this helps...

Anyone knows how to test the Mnt Rainier interface? IF you flash your "Mad in Malaysia" drive with F.FZ, Nero reports that it now supports Mnt Rainier (in addition to upgrading to 52x).
Has anyone test it? Does it really work?
Has anyone done a speed/burn quality test with the new firmware? does it look like it works OK?
Sorry but I'm a newbie at this and even though I flashed my drive I'm not sure how to tell if it works well (it appears to at least be working OK) and I don't know how to use Mnt Rainier.

Look in this thread, post by etiRkca about 10 posts down! The new firmware if F.FZ, not C.CZ, which could imply that it's not really compatible with the drive. Flashed mine seems to still work OK, but I don't know how to check Mnt Rainier functionality.

Hmmm, I guess my drive isn't compatable to be upgraded as you said papaschtroumpf. I need to mail in the rebates soon and that means either I keep this on or refund it. I guess the time difference between a 48x and a 52x can't be that bad. If anybody else knows if my drive is compatable please post!
