jimshu1 -> ASUS DVD-E616P2 DVD-ROM Firmware (1/5/2005 11:34:58 AM)

I am currently running RPC1_104.EXE on this drive downloaded from:

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php

It is RPC-1, but does not have the riplock removed. Is there a firmware for this drive that removes the riplock?

Thanks for any replies!

Is there a riplock for this drive? It is too fast to have a riplock. 11620kb/s is a very fast tranfer rate for ripping movies.

Yea, I thought it might not apply, but I read other references of removing riplock from DVD-ROM drives and thought I'd ask. They must be older, slower drives.

What is 11620kb/s, around 8X?

I can encode a DVD movie in about 12-14 minutes, and encode & burn in around 20-22 minutes. No titles or extras. Is that good?

My system:

-ANTEC Sonata Black Case w/380w TruePower
-ASUS P4C800-E DELUXE. Latest BIOS 1019

Yes 11620 is around 8.5X, and this is the average speed, not the end speed, which means FAST.[:D]

Yes the time is very good but I also have a 3.0Ghz system with 1Gb DDR or 768DDR2, not all together it depends on what's free[:D], and I need 8~9 minutes, why? Does your CPU has 1Gb cache? What about the HDs?

jimshu1 -> RE: ASUS DVD-E616P2 DVD-ROM Firmware (1/7/2005 10:50:22 AM)

My P4 is a Northwood with 512Kb of cache. The two SATA HD's I use for burning have 8Mb cache.

Is your 8 minutes for encoding and burning, or just encoding?

Thanks again for the reply!

Iggy -> RE: ASUS DVD-E616P2 DVD-ROM Firmware (1/9/2005 7:00:26 AM)

8 minutes only for encoding off course.[:D] The burning time depends on what media I will use and its speed.

I don't know mayde the cashe makes this small difference, mine is 1Mb( 775 socket), or the HDs which are not SATA. No big deal, I just thought I should mention it.[:)]

What do you do for encryption? I keep running into that problem.

jimshu1 -> RE: ASUS DVD-E616P2 DVD-ROM Firmware (1/14/2005 7:55:34 PM)

That is a different problem. It doesn't have anything to do with the drive that I'm aware of. I make backup copies with this drive being my reader.

I have read other posts that this drive doesn't like encryption, but I haven't had any problems.
