Hi friend! RPC1 has all the latest additions like RPC1 hack and DVD rip speed removal

Ok, well crap.
I just flashed to the "official" firmware provided by NEC to 3.07, just to find out that my pc finally burns dvds perfectly fine now (it used to be fine with 1.04 till for some reason it began to have problems burning). So expecting everthing to work fine, to my disalusionment, I find that my 3520 can burn an read everything well, yet I can't seem to access it's contents. i.e: I can play games that are inserted into the drive (which were previously installed), BUT, I cant seem to open any of the other dvds. I played my home-made DVD perfectly fine. yet couldnt access raw contained data. In other words, just cant access anything inside manually not even through dos; it just wont give me access to the actual contents/files. Any ideas? (also Since NEC doesnt support any of their firmwares and likes to be retarded about their firmware policy, im 2 inches away of going to third party. Although somewhat hesitant to NOT destroy my drive since it seems to still be working [at least in hardware aspect]).
Thanks. Kumoi

Ok, I tried changing to Firmware version 3.04 as suggested by the previous forum posts yet encountered the same problem (not being able to have explorer reach the files... Perhaps a windows issue?). I reverted back to Original Firmware 1.04 and it can read perfectly fine now. No problems whatsoever. In exception that I cant burn anything now. my burner keeps making coasters and doesnt recognize burning speeds faster than 2x (bummer), even so it doesnt burn. I use DVD-R due to it's proclaimed higher resistance to dataloss in comparison to DVD+R (or so I have heard, dont hold me on this one). Thus I am in a dilema. How to upgrade to a decent firmware without bonkatizing explorer, yet give me burning capabilities. I am at a loss here.
Please help me   ^.^

Hi friend! I find very strange that you are having problems after having flashed your NEC drive... Maybe something is wrong at your system? try to install your drive at other PC and see if works, maybe you can do a fresh installation of windows too?

kumoishibo -> RE: NEC 3520A and OEM official firmware overview! (8/2/2006 9:41:54 AM)

Yes, It definately is sounding like a system problem. I will see if I can try to test the drive in a third party pc and see what happens. At this problem the drive seems to be ok since it recognizes the CD-DVD in there, it just wont let explorer browse through it despite the fact that I can autoplay (if it has that feature) or access some of the files by opening the entire thing with a secondary program such as media player classic. The more I look at it, the more it looks like an annoying windows problem.

hi friend! let us know if you find a workaround

Hi, I'm having some issues with my writer recently. The drive worked very well, until I installed DVDFab Dvd Decrypter, which asked if I wanted to alter my drive (at the time, I didn't know it was going to do this) to make the ripping process faster, so I said "ok" and whatever it did, it didn't work right. My drive disappeared from the My Computer box, it was no longer being recognized by my system. I tried forcing my system to search for new devices, but all attempts failed.

I'm not sure exactly what DVDFab did, but I think it may have attempted to alter the firmware and failed. This is what I think happened, because I had been using the writer without problems for over a year and I had the problems occur right after giving DVDFab permission to do what it was recommending.

Is this actually a firmware issue? Is it possible to flash the drive with a new firmware possible if the system doesn't even see a drive? Also, if it is possible to install new firmware, will that solve the problem? I haven't tested the drive on a different computer yet and I am hesitant on attempting to flash the drive, as I've never done so before. Apologies if this reply isn't appropriate for the thread, but this seems like the only place I think I could get serious help.

I also tried running BinFlash and it didn't recognize my drive. Thanks in advance.
