PartyMeOuza -> DVD-ROM reads DVDs whenever it feels like it! (12/17/2004 7:29:00 PM)
Hi all!
I have a Panasonic (Matshita) SR-8586 which is only 3 years old.
Nowadays it plays my DVDs whenever it wants to, what I mean by this is that I can insert a DVD and after ejecting and loading it around 20 times it then decides to play it (sometimes it just doesn't play it at all).
I installed new drivers, firmware and opened it up to check for any loose connections but this has not fixed the problem. I also used a DVD cleaning disc. I also switched the data cable connected to the motherboard in case this was causing the problem. Nothing.
Does anyone have any experience with such a problem? Any advice or solutions?
Thanks for your help!

It seems that your drive is leaving you. However before any conclusions I would suggetst to test it on different systam.[:)]

Bugger me, I was hoping it didn't have to leave this mortal coil after only 3 years of little use!
That idea had crossed my mind but I don't have a 2nd computer so I have to find the right moment to go to a friends PC.

You know, my home DVD player (Panasonic A120u) is doing the exact same thing.
Many times, it will not play a rented movie, saying thats it the wrong type of disc to be played, but it will read a DVDshrink movie everytime.
So, I just went out and bought a new Sony DVP-NC875V/S which claims that it will play all formats.
