Just bought a Dell dimension 8400 with one of these drives in it. It's supposed to be a DL 16x DVD+-R drive but neither the dell supplied software nor nero 5.5 see it. It shows up as a DVD+-R in hardware manager.

Also, I can burn dvds fine from this machine with my external firewire pioneer 107 dvdr.

Any thoughts?

Maybe you need to try Nero 6.x to support your burner. Get a 30 day trial version from www.nero.com to see if it fixes your problem.

I would also suggest Nero. However if it is for movies you can use DVD Decrypter which is also freeware.[:)]
