emperor -> NEC 3500AG v2.18SE Edition (11/9/2004 5:43:47 PM)

After the official 2.18 release, here is the SE with the following improvements:

a) Support for ALL supported DL media at 4X (not tested working 100%)
b) RPC1 (Region Free)
c) Riplock Removed (12X DVD Ripping with CSS DVD-Video Discs)

Enjoy[8D]

But no booktype for DVD+R :(

well, who has this been? who has been so fast? your unknown friend emperor???
well, great!!! I'll try it out tomorrow!

RedSquirrel -> RE: NEC 3500AG v2.18SE Edition (11/9/2004 6:21:52 PM)

I haven't tried 2.18SE yet but I have just installed it. No problems so far.

What I have done recently is flashed with the 2.F9SE which had full bitsetting capabilities so I set all the default +R types to DVD-ROM. It was then pointed out by someone that the write strategies of 2.F9SE were not as good as 2.C8SE so I went back to that level.

I have now gone to 2.18SE and although DVDInfoPro shows only that +R DL as the only one which can be bitset the +R and +RW seem to have retained the setting I gave them when I was using 2.F9SE

I had a screenshot of DVDInfoPro showing this but I seem unable to post it tonight

revenant -> RE: NEC 3500AG v2.18SE Edition (11/9/2004 7:33:42 PM)

Here is a comparision of write strategies between 2c8 2f9 and 218

2c8 2f9 218
CD-R version: 1.24 1.24 1.25
CD-RW version: 1.24 1.24 1.24
DVD-R version: 1.37 1.37 1.40
DVD-RW version: 1.33 1.33 1.35
DVD+R version: 1.35t 1.56g1.58g
DVD+RW version: 1.37 1.37 1.37
DVD+R9 version: 1.26 1.24g1.26

So has u can see 218 doesn't have dvd+r bitsetting but it has the better writing strategies so I assume it is the better firmware avaiable in the momment (Waiting for 2c9 [:)])

Are you sure that it is even possible (retaining bit settings). I mean when you reflash the firmware, you virtually erased everything...like reformatting your harddrive and reinstalling windows...how can the "old" windows setting be there???

I haven't proved it by actually writing a DVD+R and checking, but DVDInfoPro and another tool I have (whose name I cannot remember but it is something like WinBltV2) definitely seem to imply that the default setting for both DVD+R and DVD+RW have been retained as DVD-ROM

Although DVDInfoPro shows the default bitsetting as DVD-ROM for DVD+R media it is greyed out and NON FUNCTIONAL and burning DVD+R media results in DVD+R book format

georg007 -> RE: NEC 3500AG v2.18SE Edition (11/10/2004 5:55:16 AM)

The last line in the picture says "For complete bitsetting capability Command Version 4 is required" What does that mean?

Flash -> RE: NEC 3500AG v2.18SE Edition (11/10/2004 6:01:13 AM)

Exactly what it says

randomwalk101 -> RE: NEC 3500AG v2.18SE Edition (11/10/2004 8:10:49 AM)

lastest rel of dvdinfopro is v.3.43....where to get version 4?

scuba_steve -> RE: NEC 3500AG v2.18SE Edition (11/10/2004 8:46:52 AM)

when dvdinfopro says ".... command version 4" in that place it is referring to the hardware capabilities of the burner, NOT the software version itself. I do not know the exact details of each version, but I'm very certain it is referring to the burner.

I know it's probably not easy to add, but I'm patiently waiting for the day it is available. Until then, I'll just stick with 2.C8 SE which has been good to me so far.

So emperor, do you like work for NEC or some OEM drive maker?
